Tad off topic:

My f80 has 10k miles on it, and I looked on the idrive it says my rear brakes will have to be done in next 90k miles.

When I'm braking I can hear this like dragging noise, its pretty loud and similar noise as if you were to sand something with sandpaper.

Wondering if its normal sound for the CCB? Kind of worried that I went through "60k miles" in the 10k miles I've driven the car.

My GTS front was scratched within 1st few hundred miles, as well. I contacted BMWNA; they offered to repair, not replace and, of course, no response to, "what about a sustainable fix?"

The cf wheels got the same "tight" clearance. It be nastyle to see one of those wheels go bad.

I was wondering about that. It's inevitable. If you're going to spend for another set of wheels, much rather go for the F1R's. Even the 19" fronts have better clearance. And, double the weight savings.

ABSOLUTELY. To have spent this much on a specially developed car, and have a wheel scratched within weeks of purchase, and the probability it will happen again, is beyond comprehension.

On my drive home from the dealer (2miles), My Acid Orange inner barrel front right wheel had two grooves machined into them by I'm guessing the pebbles everyone on here as experienced. Obviously I was very un happy!

As soon as I heard the noise I pulled to the side of the road, stopped, backed up a touched and then rolled forward and heard nothing further. Arriving at my Hangar, I found the Acid Orange and silver metal shavings.
:-(

I have raced and tracked many cars with big brakes for the last 18 years, I never expected to experience this.

Not only is the clearance tight,, but the design of the Brembo caliper effectively wedges the small rocks in so they will cut deeper and deeper.

I read through all the pages, and assume that there have been no wheel failures? thus BMW is not motivated to fix or deal with this? Wow wish I had found your thread before I spent 134k. a new wheel is 2k, but then the problem will simply reoccur.

Has anyone found a scraper/protector type solution?

Is there a 19" wheel that is confirmed to have the clearance necessary to no longer experience the small rocks/pebbles machining into the wheel? is there one available in Acid Orange? And that is track worthy? Thank you for your assistance and experience with helping me find a solution to be able to continue enjoying this car.

Except for the clearance issue, I really love this GTS.

I collected my new DTM last week and I've done 100 miles and this happened to me this morning

To say I am gutted is an understatement.

Have there been any successful UK Claims for replacement wheels?

A new wheel is over 2k and I cannot believe the price. WHY are they soooo expensive?

Our customers reported a lot more CCB brake clearance compared to OEM. Signature have on the largest inner wheel barrel clearance in the industry. Even our 18" clears 394mm CCB on the C7 Z06.

Signature SV103 19x10.5 front and 19x11.5 rear. Track setup.

It's quite possible. The other alternative is to keep OE calipers and down size the rotors to achieve the same result.

Question is how many of you are seriously interested in this ultimate solution?

I don't see how downsizing the rotors helps anything. The rocks get caught between the caliper edge and the inner wheel barrel.

When rotor is down sized, say to 390mm, the caliper will move also 5mm* towards axle which creates 5mm more wheel barrel clearance.

*OE rotor dia=400mm, (400-390)/2=5mm, requiring OE caliper adaptor also be replaced.

It would be easier and cheaper to just replace the OEM wheels with wheels with wider inner clearance.

The advantage of 390mm CCM rotor kit, other than providing more wheel clearance, is the saving on future disc replacement - It will be $1,500 from GM dealer vs. $2,500? from BMW dealer.

We also believe for a 390mm rotor kit a proper wheel size is 19" - Typical for Mercedes' high end models such as E63, C63 Black Series, and S etc. Any wheel size smaller than 19" may impair the integrity of safety especially on tracks.

18" wheels is normally for 355mm rotor kit, some aftermarket wheels can fit 380mm kit depending on caliper profile, for example OE gold caliper is pretty bulky so even 380mm is a real stretch, not mention 390mm kit.

I just joined the club

After 30,000KM it finally happened. A nice deep gouge through out the whole barrel on the front wheel.

I'm going to bring it up with my dealer and see what they say. Wish me luck!

You're going to need a miracle and not luck. The dealer won't do shit all for you because BMW Canada will not approve anything.

Anyone have picture of these scratches on the silver wheels? I'm wondering if they are much less noticeable.

Thanks!

All, I am a former F80 owner (non comp then comp pack car, no CCB). I am now an owner of a 2017 GT350R (not wanting to get any kind of comparison of the cars debate going, I love both cars). I am posting here because I remembered this thread after experiencing this exact issue on my R. My case is exactly the same, very small caliper to wheel barrel clearance issue has resulted in a rock getting stuck and making a nice groove in my carbon fiber wheel. I also have the cup 2 tires which make the rock situation much worse. I am furious but do not think ford will give a crap. At least I see some of you are getting some assistance from BMW. Anyway, crazy how these 2 cars are having the same issue.
