Question Soft tires that wont rock chip my paint to hell

I just sold my e92 and I ran Nitto NT01s on it and loved it. The bad thing is it would heat up and pick up rocks like crazy and later throw them against the paint.

I just got a new Ferrari Red F82 and really want to take care of the paint. I am buying new track wheels and tires and I am considering going with something less aggressive for this reason?

Any thoughts on a different tire?

Also the front of the car has clear bra on it. Anyone clear bra their rear bumper to protect the lip of the wheel well from rocks from the rear tires etc?

Clear bra the lower rockers and lower 1/5th of the door. Also clear bra the rear bumper as well as extend the standard film before the rear wheel and you should be fine

Experience: I have a black F80 lol

Foot Note:The clear bra will get "chipped" as well. So your car will never look as if you just drove it off the lot when looking at any lower body panel at 6 inches away.

get the M-Side Skirts. I have them and have ZERO paint chips or rock impacts on the side panels of my car.

Yes, This is actually a protective mod for sure. I wish I did them on my F80

You are asking for impossible - pick either sticky tires for traction (with a side order of rock pickup), or lousy all-seasons or cheap-o summer tires with mediocre traction that will minimize debris pickup.

What's your priority?

a

P.S.: Yes, you can clear bra the entire car ($3-5K), and it will get damaged first, instead of the paint. But it will get damaged by debris nonetheless, and the damage will be visible.

I found that the Conti DWS 06 that i used for winter hardly picked up rocks/stones. I never heard anything kicking up into the wheel wells with these tires. Also, you will never notice any performance difference during street driving and i felt that they actually hooked up better at launch than PSS.

What if you just do a slight lowering not allowing rocks to hit the paint.

I am pretty sure if the car is lowered it will be hit with more rocks, but I could be wrong.

You can always slap some bad ass fender extenders, like the guy below.
Though, personally, I would rather live with a few paint chips...

The most important two areas to protect are 1) the quarter dogleg... needs film 4" higher than what the factory provides and 2) the rear bumper where it follows the contour of the rear wheel along with the very bottom surface. Finally, that black rocker tape should finish you off nicely! You need soft tires...not having traction is pointless.

I bit the bullet and went with nitto nt01s.

I am having some additional xpel added, and I bought some track tape that I will put on before going to the track.

The oem bmw star rated MPSS are notorious for slinging rocks against the car. I did clear bra on my rockers, lower doors and the full rear wheel arch. I ended up going aftermarket on wheels that are wide and are offset to make them flush with the fenders. Went with the MP4S. They're better than the MPSS as far as road noise, wet and dry traction. As a bonus, they don't sling the loose small gravel on the roads. It's nice to be able to drive down the road and not cringe listening to all the rocks getting kicked up.

A delta of 1 inch in ride height hardly makes any difference.. the compound of the tire makes a much bigger difference and unfortunately that is the trade off. My RE71Rs especially when new, felt like post it notes and picked up everything it rolled over. After that initial layer wore off it was a lot better, but nothing like tires in the ultra high performance category or lower.

You might want to avoid PSC2 tires.
