1,400 miles in and no problems thus far...

...apart from the "tin can" noise from the rear once around 400 miles.

M3s are not quiet cars. This isnt new to the F80.

6,000 miles and going strong - the well-reported "scraping tin can sound" stopped once I hit about 2,500 miles - absolutely no other problems whatsoever - car is rock solid...

I took the car in for its 1200 mile service at about 1125 miles. I mentioned that I got a chassis malfunction warning twice while driving. It dropped out of M mode but was still driveable, not in limp mode. Its been in the shop 5 days and they told me the acceleration sensor failed, waiting on the replacement from Germany. Annoying that something so simple results in a week in the shop.

Chassis Warning

I just received a chassis check control message on my 2016 M3. Mine happened right after starting the car. It disabled the ability to adjust the adaptive suspension settings and the car drives very loosely now. Apparently, it is ok to drive it non-aggressively until my service appointment (Oct. 17), so we'll see what the specific issue is then.

Shop looked at it, and said it could be exhaust valve on bank 1.

One of the side bolster air sacks in the driver seat is squeaking if I move in the seat.

There are also two recalls on the vehicle as of last week. One to replace a resistor that causes random faults (DCT malfunction, etc), and one to reseal something (not sure) that could cause water leaks.
I know that this thread is old, but what ended up being the problem that caused the tapping?

Smile 5k+ One Issue - I was able to Fix

My ///M3 has been mechanically exceptional, although I have not put many miles on it. I have had only one issue when closing the trunk, it would rattle. I initially thought it might be the license plate (no frame), but when I checked it was secured pretty nicely. I had realized after looking into it a little further, the latching mechanism of the trunk had become loose and was the cause of the rattle. I was able to apply some torque to the fasteners and no re-occurrence of the unit coming undone. Should it happen again I will fully remove and then apply a bit of lock tight to the fasteners (which I would think should happen at the factory).

Non related to the car itself, I had OEM rubber floor matts leave a white residue stain on the carpeting. Not sure what that was about. I removed the mats and replaced with the original carpets. Not sure if it was a release agent residue or other contaminant. I will fully clean the rubber with an appropriate cleaner.
