Does your car have this tint strip across the top of the windshield?

So a buddy of mine has an F80 in MG that has some interesting options. The build sheet is like picking a la carte, no packages or anything. More interesting than that, it has factory front glass with a tint strip up top. There are about 8 F8X platform cars in our group, and around town there are plenty, but I have never seen one with that tint strip. Anybody out there have one on theirs? Any idea how it was built this way? We thought maybe military build, but weren't sure.

We are thinking now that it is because he doesn't have HUD, if you have HUD it deletes the tint strip.

I think the tint strip only comes on cars that don't have the HUD. Mine has the HUD and no tint strip.

Thanks! Looks like we may have found the reason behind it.

Not until you have HUD and full front tint

But I don't see how the two need to be mutually exclusive...

I'm guessing that the tint is a full window coating, and it conflicts with the anti-reflective coating the windscreen has when you have the HUD?

No HUD and tint strip. I am 43 and never have owned a car without the tint strip (and I've owned a lot of them).

Possibly; but I got a full windshield tint (aftermarket) and I have a HUD, with no issues...

Doesn't make sense, Both are options you can select on M5, and I also have aftermarket tint on top of the BMW climate windscreen, HUD works fine.

I haven't looked at M3/4's options list, but I am fairly certain you can both the climate screen and HUD at the same time.

Edit: I was able to configure M4 with both climate screen and HUD on the BMW Taiwan website, plus I have both on my M5, so I do not believe you can only have one but not the other.
