DP or Midpipe?

Greetings all,

Just wanted to get some outside opinions on this. Have a ZCP M4 and I'd like a little bit more to the exhaust sound but not too much (I know that's rather vague), so curious what people think is a better choice. A downpipe (HFC or non) or just do a secondary cat-delete midpipe? It's possible that I'll do one of the two and decide to add the next part anyway, but I want to take it piece by piece to see what I think.

Thoughts, suggestions or recipe tips?

The downpipe option is going to be the louder solution, between the two choices. Downpipes will keep the same tone as the stock zcp exhaust, but amplify it. The exhaust will become deeper and a little raspier, but still sounds great.

If you add a midpipe, the noise will increase, but tone and sounds will vary depending on which midpipe.

Active Autowerkes eliminates a good amount of the rasp from the factory and is a popular choice.

Other options to consider are, Remus or Dinan (resonator delete). Both of these options will make the car sound much louder, but since there is no resonator, it will also increase rasp.

Here are a couple videos:

Surprisingly, no videos of zcp with downpipes. I have a few clips of this set up on my iPhone, if you would like me to send them over, shoot me a pm with your number

The best route to go to get a little more tone and aggressiveness out of the F8x's without going too crazy or getting a ton of rasp is hands down our Secondary Catbypass X-Pipe. Our X-Pipe eliminates the most amount of rasp than any of the other midpipes out there. Check it out below and check your PMs as well, I'd love to chat more!

Thank you both for the information. I'll check out those videos and see what I think.

It does have the MPE you are correct. Still gives you an idea of how it's not an overly aggressive setup - just a nice little bump in sound! Thanks. I agree, I think it's the perfect setup for people who don't want to go too crazy but would like to refine some of that rasp out.

DP was a night & day difference. Cold start is ridiculously loud though. Sounds almost stock at the low RPM's but on WOT it's really loud & nice. You get some cracks and burbles, highly recommend it. However, it can be little raspy I noticed when the engine is cold or not fully warmed.

Would DP and Fabspeed Mid's be ridiculously loud?

That would be a decently loud setup. A lot of rasp. The rasp comes from eliminating the primary downpipes. Check out the video below. This is catless downpipes and our Secondary Catbypass X-Pipe!

Burbles and cracks on the F8x's is going to come from tuning. You will need catless downpipes and our Valvetronic Exhaust to get the most once the tuning is done. Check it out below:

Here is an F80 with our mid-pipe installed with OEM downpipes and rear muffler. Minimal rasp with a better overall tone and increased performance!

I challenge any exhaust company to a rasp off.

Depends on what you are looking for in terms of sound

I personally hate how raspy the exhaust sounds so i would do Active Autowerke midpipe.
