What do you think these sensors are? Are you thinking that they're related to the touch function? As I've stated before, I have a MY18 M4 without a touch screen but still have the false laser alert issue.

I think they are related to the touch function. I know on the Gxx cars with hand gesture control there are three sensors on each side if I remember right. I just know in testing blocking and unblocking them with my thumbs stopped and initiated the false laser alert respectively. I've got them taped off now with no issue. If I remember tomorrow I'll take a look at an '18 m4 tomorrow that doesn't have touch screen and seen if it's the same hardware. Bmw is good at installing the same hardware in similar cars just coding functions in and out so there's a decent chance they are the same screen with the same lights just the head unit isn't coded to accept touch input from the screen. No promises but I'll take a peek if I get a chance tomorrow.

I verified this morning on an '18 m4 with no touch screen does have the same lights. So same screen hardware wise like I thought just no touch functions coded in. Cover those up and you should be good. They are faint in the picture because of the ambient light outside but you can still see them.

Thanks for all the extra effort. I'll check it out.

My my17 has no issues. When I have a loaner with gesture or touchscreen my detector is worthless and is alerting non-stop. To me it is clear it is the I drive screen.

I tried this and it worked. Thank you! It was a constant nuisance and I was not able to figure out how to make the laser warning go away.

How did you cover them?

I turned off the laser band on my 9500iX, but would like to try other solutions.

I'm actually using a post it for now (it works). I am eventually going to put something black to cover it. I actually made a video showing how just covering those sensors prevent the false laser alerts. Valentine V1 here. You'll be able to see in the video that when I put my hand over the sensors, the laser alert goes away, the moment I remove my hand, the laser alert comes back.

-- As a sidenote- this thread should probably be stickied.... anyone with an 2018 M3/M4 using a radar/laser detector is going to want to know how to get rid of the CONSTANT false laser alerts. This fix will prevent countless headaches....I myself drove the car 5000 miles constantly "muting" every false laser alert.
And again thanks to @F80Doug for the fix. This is literally life saver for me.

Electrical Tape is best for a short term solution per my advice in one of the other threads below. If it doesn't already exist, could have some overlays made from vinyl or ultra thin CF Self Adhesive veneer to match the interior trim for a semi-permanent fix.

Definitely don't use a lead apron though

My fix will definitely involve carbon fiber...wonder if its possible to code this feature out

Same problem here, I found another solution as well you make sort of a "visor" for you radar using a bus ness hard just expand it in front of the radar enough and the alert will stop as well, but my question is, what are those sensors in the screen are used for?

I bought some black color coding dots from an office supply store to cover mine. I got the removable kind not the permanent just in case I want to peel them off without damaging the screen or leaving a portion of the stickers on the screen upon removal.

You da real MVP! I got a 2018 loaner and it was setting off my Escort iX like crazy too. Thought something had gone wrong with it. Glad someone figured it out!

In for someone to develop a better method to cover up the sensors if they aren't important. My detector has been driving me nuts with the false lasers ever since I got my F80

Just this past weekend, after I turned the laser back on in my Valentine1, I confirmed the rising or setting sunlight sets it off. So I turned it off again...

All I did on my 2018 was move the detector horizontally away from the center of the windscreen - Once I positioned the detector about 3-5 inches horizontally offset from the center of the rear view mirror - the false laser alerts went from constant to almost never.

Have an 18 M3 and had the same issue with my escort 9500ix when mounting to the rear view mirror. Moved it to the windshield in front (further away from you) of the screen did not get any more false alerts. Might reduce sensitivity mounting lower but I've still had plenty of time to slow down once the warnings go off. Just have my hardwire wires wedged between the windshield and the dash.

Escort IX Laser Falsing

I have a new 2018 440i MSport Coupe and my IX constantly does false laser alerts.
I put the same IX in my 2012 X5 -no falsing.
I switched IXs (I have 2) and got the same results.
Next going to try turning phone off and covering the display.

Have you read the responses in this thread? Do you have gestures in the 440 cause I know you don't have it in the 12 X5. The gestures is what is causing it.

I returned my 360c for the uniden r3 and no more issues.

The unidens range is dam near DOUBLE!

I lost arrows. But the RANGE. And no more funky Bmw quirks the 360 had.

Uniden all the way guys!
