Isn't the initial EPA numbers just a guess and not an actual EPA test? Seems like I remember something similar happening on another car (maybe the F30?). Or I could be dreaming, but I swear I remember a year or so after launch the EPA actually tested the car and adjusted the numbers a bit.
I wonder (and I haven't done extensive research or even read every post in this thread because i'm lazy) if the car has been actually tested or is relying on some formula to estimate consumption and/or using what BMW is saying they expect. |

As for the M3, I think the econ is plenty good for a car of its size and power. |

Jaguar F Type R with a 550hp V8 that goes 0 to 60 in 3.6s gets 16city,18combined, 23 hwy which is one less mpg than the M4 with DCT. Seems like BMW made awhole a lot of hoopla about efficiency/benefits of going turbo/smaller engine to get the same performance/efficiency as its V8 competition (even if its better than the old S65 V8)

I have been getting around 22mpg 'city' -- includes some stop sign, red light, parking garage crap -- 29 mpg highway -- includes a fair bit of 90+ mph cruising. Not quite as good as my N54, but the monster tires and 425 HP do exact a cost.
Put more air in your tires. Significant difference between the 30/30 psi that dealer puts in vs. the 34/36 that I prefer.

Our F80, #MSENTME, appears to be achieving ~22mpg ave.
Any highway driving using cruise control at 79mpg on turnpike yields 28.5mpg... Yes, display reads over 30mpg given conditions - just as it'll read 24mpg pulling a 'hill' and/or headwind. Mixed driving = the car in stock trim has such limited traction, that it's not much 'fun' trying to really use too much of the throttle 'cause that lovely Yellow-flickering-light-of-promiscuity keeps intervening. A fun-to-note techy observance is to use cruise while dash display reads TQ and HP figures on split screen with fuel mileage rates. Watching how little TQ and HP the car needs to achieve cruising speed is interesting. Nice all around car for those questioning that fact. That said, if you know anyone looking for a #YMB #F80 for the right price, message me... Untimely life-changing factors on my part for you to take advantage of. |
