There is no way in hell that is the new design. There has never been a redesign that looks so similar to the previous generation. Aren't there already spy shots of the F80 coupe?
If it looks anything like that, there is much more reason to go with the 4 door M3. |

No, at least none that can be identified as such so far. But there definitely are F32 spy shots. However, they do little to reveal any sort of detail at this point due to all the cladding. Still it is at least clear that the new coupe will evolve from the E92, further distancing itself from its sedan sibling (certainly not this nonsense of stealing its sibling's front end whole-sale). Also, there have been some high quality F32 artist renderings from European magazines posted in other threads that show how it might look.
(I edited you post slightly for exactness - hope you don't mind) |

So you want to say M3 Coupé F82 with I6? Well, if it is ture it is nothing surprising, it is the obvious choice. But will it really end up being "the obvious choice"?

Sign me up for a passenger seat test... I'm close by. I've logged my share of M3 miles (more than most). I'll happily give my opinion (wait they already know it as I am never shy to express it with Dr. N!).

I would assum the new m3 would look closer visually to the new F10 M5. As far as it being a V6? I highly doubt that as the entire range below is an I6 in the new 3er.

I don't know either but as already stated before in other threads, if you cut off 2 cylinders from the 4.4 litre V8 M5 unit you get a 3.3 litre V6....

Bretheren! M hasn't screwed it up yet, and still with every new generation the loud cries ring out, "Death for the M3"! Maybe it will incorporate the electrically-driven turbos shown in the recent BMW patent application? I hope it stays silky-smooth as M3's of yore. I want out of my E60 M5 vibrating big pig, but I can make friends at the gas station a while longer.
Patience. These guys in Dingolfing know us. It will be a true M.

Sad to see the NA engine go, but how can you not love the torque that the turbo engine will be putting out. With a minor tune it'll be really cheap to make major power. It'll be interesting to see how fast they will be compared to the new 911CS. With the turbo it will be better than spending tens of thousands on a supercharger like you have to on the e90/e92 and e46 M3 cars.

"Expect the M3 to tip the scales close to 3,483 pounds, which would be about 75 pounds less than the current coupe"
I'm sure the F80/82 will be an improvement, but with information like this I don't think it's going to be the step ahead we're used to in M3 evolution...... Of course, I could be, and hope to be very wrong about this.

Each M3 model has its uniqueness. For example e30 was basic and light, e46 design was the best, e9x V8 engine is the best engine in its own class... I believe the new m3 will have something special that everybody would love. It will go forward not backward. Every new m3 is better than the previous one. We also know this from the new M5 and M6. They are considerably better than their predecessors.

430 hp and 400tq... so really a huge gain in tq. Not bad I guess, I still feel if they are gonna do a turbo v6 they should make the damn thing rev to teh moon like the old f1 cars..... thats such a huge win for me if they do that! i would buy it if the revs still goto 8500 otherwise the engine doesnt sound special to me (sound noise wise and literally its a turbo v6).

Unfortunately, even some on the other hand ... As I have repeatedly said, I would not bet a cent! Neither of I6, V6 still on! If you ask five people on the subject, you get 10 different answers! One half swears by the I6 and appeals to the tradition and considers it impossible to install anything other than an I6 ... The other half swears that it's a V6 (Apollo concept) will be ... As Scott said already so well: Soon we will know more. Because it really seems to be that the F80 is entered into production in September. This could be built enough cars for a presentation to the beginning. ... and as soon as the M3 was entered into volume production, we will know what he has under the hood ... |

The funny thing is that we are all guessing about what engine will be put in the F80, and what the engineers are trying to achieve.
I bet the concept for F80 has long been established, and it's just a matter of fine tuning and marketing now. The engineers are now already working on a new engine for 'F90' or something :-) |
