I think I've finally realized...

that no matter what kind of precautions you take to protect your car, something WILL happen eventually (big or small).

Barely 600 miles on my f80 and I've already been in a minor rear end collision. Additionally, the ONE area that I didn't protect with clear bra (on the rockers behind the front wheels) looks like it has been sandblasted already.

It took me until almost 35 years old to realize, but again no matter what you do or which precautions you take, some things are just out of your control.

Thanks for letting me vent and hopefully this rings true for at least one other person out there

Welcome to reality my friend. A car is just a hunk of scrap metal at the end of the day. Drive it and enjoy.

Spend your time and energy on more important things in life.

Yeah, the fist one is always the worst. Cars are always so jewel-like on delivery. If I could recoup the mental energy over the years being angry at the first blemish, I'm sure I would be a better person!

Yes all joking aside, this is a valuable lesson to learn. You can only put so much time and energy in to protecting a car before it starts to infringe on the enjoyment / utility of the car itself.

You've done all you can and more, so enjoy the car now and enjoy life.

Welcome to the club my friend.... You could encase your car in a condom and damage would still happen somewhere, it sucks but it's life. Just enjoy driving a car that many people would kill to own in their lifetime.

Yep, I feel your pain.
I think the right side of my car has been cursed.

Up until 2 weeks ago my car was pristine, then I got into a mild fender bender (luckily no paint damage just some small dents).
Refinished the right rear wheel (damage from accident).
Needed alignment done (from accident).
Removed oem rock chip film and buffed out fender (damage from accident).
Had dealership repair a nail in my right rear tire so of course they had to scratch my newly refinished black satin wheel.
Came out today from the dentists office and found that I had driven through gum on the freeway.
Looked like a Jackson Pollock painting on the whole right side of my car.
AND I still have to get a PDR guy to fix the right rear fender.

Is it Friday yet? CAUSE I'M GONNA GET DRUUUNK THIS WEEKEND!!

Absolutely true. I have realised that too. No matter what you do, $hit happens. I try my best to park on the edges of parking lots, as far away from the neighboring car as possible to avoid door dings and try to be safe on rods. That's the best you can do.

Scars add to the story and history of your vehicle. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I'm always relieved after the first incident. I stop treating the car like a diamond and just treat it like a machine

This is a fun thread. Just to add my story - I picked up my car about a 18 months ago and almost instantly had it clear bra'd after delivery.

So a few months later I'm washing the car and realized that the installer forgot to clear bra a section of the rockers and they were now pitted and chipped (not bad by any means but still...).
Needless to say I was devastated about this for days if not weeks, but eventually you get over it.

Moral of the story is that even though I thought that I took every precaution, I still got bitten in the end. It's just inevitable, so enjoy the car and hope that whatever does happen is minimal.

I pick mine up tomorrow after repairs from getting rear ended in Miami. I was just happy the other driver stopped... and had insurance. The other driver took off after another accident in Miami 5 years ago. Shit happens, just gotta deal with it and be happy no bodily injury.

I know the feeling. It stresses me out often, and the wife says "it's just a car hun. It's okay" but then that just makes me fume even though I know she meant well. It's more than just a car

Haha, my wife is always saying the same thing. I think I stress more about her car than mine sometimes.
