Trolling is not bad sometimes, you took it very seriously, it is good that you read and learn and do not do what everyone else does, so you will save a lot of money.

So let's say the compressor is staying engaged the whole time during idle/cruise...this is cooling your intercooler below ambient temps yes. Your intake air temps are low yes. Now when you go and do a pull, the compressor shuts off and stops cooling the intercooler (when you want it the most)...so you only get a short duration burst of cool air and the rise in intake temps is a much higher ramp rate than an optimum cooling solution.

Now also add this into the mix...all that heat you removed is just going to the front of the car, into your intakes, into your radiator/heat exchanger...if the AC condenser was at the rear of the car, ok this is not as bad...but still not ideal considering you're performing work on the car when you don't need to.

How about the concept of your inside air conditioning still working at the same time as the interchiller...well this is flawed as well because now your compressor has to do even more work to cool both your intake and your interior...this is a huge loss in efficiency with zero payback.

Then add in the extra wear on the compressor and risk of your cooling system going into limp mode (which I've personally seen on an upgraded turbo, built motor F80 at a race who was a personal friend that I tried spitballing ideas to fix this). Not worth the risk of this imo and you're reducing the reliability of the car as a whole.

First law of thermodynamics wins this one [...]
Good reference points and feedback, will contact FI Interchillers w/ the arguments made above, and will post up responses.

First though, if an FI kit, was this the stage1 or stage2 option? Cabin ac may be effected w/ the stage 1 option.

Also will ask about increased strain on a/c system leading to failure.

Reading into this a bit more, it appears the AC compressor will be under near constant load trying to achieve its interchiller-temp-goal (slowly) with a stage1, but with stage2, you hit that goal within 1-2min and load is removed from the compressor. Seems like the ac condensor heat buildup issue that was referenced would be mitigated by a stage2 coming up to temp quickly and consistently, then backing off in terms of compressor load.

Maybe this item will not be the best terms of road racing (being at WOT a lot), but straight line events, day-to-day traffic, hot climate living + spirited driving…there appears to still be something of value here.

No value when it reduces reliability. I’d encourage you to take interchiller discussion to a different thread please.

Again, we need more details to fairly determine reliability, one data point is not enough. I will post updates in the Interchiller thread.

Please chime in if your reference story was a stage 1 or 2 kit

OG Shark - reviving an old thread.

Did you ever move forward with testing the Wagner vs PWR intercoolers? Interested in your findings. Thank you.
