Rattles appeared on all 4 doors out of nowhere. Started today. After reading the super informative old post (see link bellow), I ordered nextzett 91480615 'Gummi Pflege.

But then I thought, why not clean shadowline trim and apply some wax on it. I used my trusty Collinite 845. Zero rattles. I'm still going to coat door seals with Gummi Pflege. I think this is going to be an ongoing issue. Funny that I never heard a peep from my '16 f80 for two and a half years.

Two photos attached. I put a good coat of wax on the Shadowline black plastic trim around the door frame (left photo). Actually I put several coats of wax on, and then a coat of 'finisher' detailing spray (all poly products from Meguiars). In the second photo (on the right) my finger is pointing toward the flocking at the very top of the door (at least that's what it was called in someone else's post). On my car, I think it was the flocking that was rubbing against the black plastic trim and making the annoying noise. Before waxing the black plastic trim, I could recreate the 'creaking' by pushing on the flocking from the outside of the car while the door was closed. I've done nothing to the flocking. The noise is 100% gone, but I'll have to drive it for a while to see how long this treatment lasts. The writer of the E39 post I read actually treated the flocking with McLube Sailcoat and claimed it lasted over 5000 miles. If my creaking comes back quickly, I'll try that route. Hope this helps.

Thank you. Than's what I did yesterday, but I used Collinite 845.

May be change in materials. My 2015 had not a single rattle for 15K miles, my 2018 all 4 doors are doing exactly this. I thought it was the CF roof at first as my prior car had sunroof. Figured out one day that it stopped when the windows were down, will try the wax/silicone.

This thread is like “how many engineers does it take to screw in a light bulb?” glad we found an obvious solution.

I'm an engineer and should defend the honor of my brothers and sisters, but mostly you're right...

man this has been an ongoing problem with my car that I can't seem to totally kill off. pfledge hasn't really helped. maybe I'll try the wax/vaseline/pfledge tripleplay and see what happens. Its crazy how loud and creaky this car is because of it and how dropping the windows even the slightest amount solves the problem. drives me insane.

2018 M3 ZCP. I have the issue with the creaking noise that seems to be coming from the seals. In my case, it seems to be 90%+ casued by friction between the flocking and shadowline trim. I tried Vaseline, gummi plfedge, and half inch teflon tape. Only the teflon tape demonstrates consistent, long term performance when applied so that the flocking does not rub directly against the shadowline trim. I did my best to apply it by using blue tape with the doors closed to get a baseline, but I've got to redo some areas and the tape isn't cheap. Be sure to clean the trim with a degreaser or whatever you'd like before applying the tape.

I had my seals replaced by the dealership during my 1200 mile service. Had wind noise, rattling windows, and creaking. They did the Teflon tape too, and now the problem is gone fwiw.

When I took delivery of my car a week ago, there was no creaking. I brought it in on Friday last week for the Cilajet treatment and now all my windows creak especially when you drive at slow speeds over potholes or uneven grounds. Sounds like the whole car is twisting and bending.

Mostly the same for me. Bought it, it was fine for about a week and a half. Washed it w/pH neutral products, only a foam/car wash soap the first time, and almost immediately it began to sound as you describe.

I bought some McLube Sailkote from Amazon (a little pricey, but it came quickly). Got the idea from the E39 forum, then did some research on the Sailkote and decided to try it. I coated the flocking (heavily) and the shadowline trim. It's been silent for three days now, and counting. I tried waxing the shadowline trim two weeks ago, and it worked well, but only lasted a couple days before light creaking began again. If the Sailkote doesn't last, I'll be going the Teflon tape route also, though I'll likely ask the dealer to do it under warranty first.

I'm scheduling my break-in service for this week. I've also asked for the window seals to be looked at and explained why.

My car had the same problem after 20k miles. After applying some turtle wax to the shadowline, it has been absolutely quiet for the last 10 days. Hope it would last.

My car is going in for break-in service tomorrow morning. I'll report back what change, if any, there is to address the rattling.
