I live in VA, I purchased the http://www.usmillworks.com/Default.html set up to avoid the prospects of a citation from local or state police. I agree, you shouldn't have your dealer install a bracket - either go with millworks or the Skene & Calvert design.

I was pulled over once for no front license plate since October in my F82 and live in South Cali. Prior to that, I hadn't been pulled over in 4 years to no front plate on my last car but I think down here in Orange County, a lot of cars don't run front plates anyway.

I haven't put a front license plate on in years. No issues. Hate the look with the front plate.

I won't be putting mine on, unless it's temporarily for a fix-it ticket. It's been mentioned a bit in this thread, I'm going to have illegal tint on the front side windows as well. The front plate is strictly looks. The tint; I'm sorry, I'm not letting myself get baked in the sun.

I'm painting/clear coating the bracket and installing it
I don't like the look of the tow hook mounts and don't want to give LEOs and meter maids a reason to target me |

I saw this in the parking lot. I wonder if this is legal and counts. If it does, i wouldnt mind getting a decal printed of my plate but small enough to fit on the bumper.

Doubt it's legal but I'm certain it's ugly. I'm going to keep taking my chances. If it becomes a problem I'll get a tow hook mount.

Front plate
Didn't want put holes in my bumper but in NJ, no front plate = tix. Had enough of getting pulled over when I had no plate on my Vette. USMillworks was the best option for me. Easy on and off if needed. |

I live in jersey and have no front plate. I haven't been bothered yet but it doesn't mean I won't be. Either way I will pay the $50 fine to keep the car looking pretty.

I live in San Francisco and the parking is pretty tight here. There is already a tiny dent on my brand new M3 bumper. Stupid me didn't bother to use the bumper guard that only one time and sure enough, the car parked behind me hit my bumper and left that dent. This is why I need the front license plate to protect my front bumper
(The dealer didn't install the license bracket.) I checked out the Skene & Calvert design and wonder if someone bumped my front bumper it would able to stand the force and not damage anything. What would be the best way to protect my front bumper with the front license install and still looks great? By the way, I don't mind have my front plate installed for I got pulled over before when my Lexus had no front license plate. It was a hassle and I don't want to go through that again. Thanks for tips in advance. |

Don't have my front license plate on and will never drill holes in the bumper.
I've had the car both in Baltimore and Los Angeles and haven't been pulled over. If I'm not mistaken, you can only get a front plate ticket if you are pulled over for a traffic violation or are being given a parking ticket. (plus it's just a 'fix-it' ticket, not a moving violation) I keep my front plate in my glove compartment.

My dealer's SOP is not to drill holes in the front bumpers of all their Ms'; the rest of their inventory all get front plates. My 2008 E92 did not have a front plate and in 5 years of ownership driving it as far south as San Diego and as far north as Santa Barbara, I got dinged once by Beverly Hills PD (of all places). My F82 also does not have a front plate and I plan to keep it that way (knock wood). I'll eat the fine.

I didn't have a choice my dealer took off the tourist plates, and installed the front/rear plate with their advertisement frames, right after they got it. They also took off the european vignetts stickers in my window, thanks

I take delivery of my M3 in a couple of months. My state (Ohio) requires front plates. I have no intention of ever putting a front plate on this car. I respect all other laws but there is NO freaking way I am a) ruining my $70+ car front bumper or putting a different bracket on it b.) ruining the look of the car just to abide by a law that is in place to a) collect revenue for the state b.) make it easier for law enforcement to track cars.
What is ironic is there are two police officers in my neighborhood, both cool as hell, that do NOT have front plates on the cars they drive to work every day. One is a Jeep the other a very highly modified Vette (lowered/down pipes to name two mods). On a related not I bought my wife a new car a year ago. Did not put a plate on that one either.

This is the front plate on my M4. Front of the bumper is not drilled - uses the Skene mount

No drilling on the front of my cars, and cops never say a word about it. Have not had a front plate on any of my vehicles since the law changed to require the front plate.
