Disabling auto-rev matching on M4 MT?

I'm looking at buying an M4, but I hate auto rev-matching. I've driven cars with it before and don't like it at all. I've done my own rev-matching since I passed my test 28 years ago, it's totally normal for me and I don't want a computer meddling.

The only problem is I also hate Sport and Sport+ modes - the over-sensitive non-linear throttle is horrible. Is there any way to disable auto rev-match otherwise? Coding? Perhaps a company that do remaps? (I'm in the UK).

This is enough of an issue to put me off the car altogether. My main reason for considering an M4 is that three years into owning my first auto I'm sick of autos, but it seems all the manual cars that fit my other requirements have this annoying feature (240i, 340i, M2 and M4).

Thanks.

Try this:

I have a stock 2016 F83 manual which rev matches in all modes. Must be that the software was updated by the prior owner before I bought it last year. After multiple trips to the dealer to explain (unsuccessfully) that it is NOT supposed to rev match in sport+, I played around with things (no coding though) and found that I could stop rev match in all modes for the length of any given drive by doing the following:

Press start button once (do not depress clutch)
Select Sport +
Depress clutch and press start button to start the car
Drive off and enjoy!

Note: rev match will be now "off" in all modes. However, if you select sport or efficient too soon I find it occasionally begins to rev match again. If you stay in sport + for approx 20 mins from the start, it seems to hold the rev match "off" mode for the length of your drive even if you switch modes during the drive.

If not, then buy a Porsche- seriously...

Wow - thanks. That's simple enough to try on a test drive, so I'll give it a go if and when I find a car.

Porsche is not an option for me as I need the boot space and roof bars that carry a hefty load. Oh, and much like I hate non-linear throttles in Sport+ mode, I also hate non-linear steering, which is now standard for all Porsches. I've driven two Caymans and found it horrible. It seems odd to me that when some companies obsess over how to make their cars as linear as possible, others actively try and make their cars non-linear.

IMHO, I find the efficient and sport not aggressive enough when I blip the throttle for a downshift. The rpm's don't go high enough. I was like you when I first got my M, sport plus is really touchy, even compared to my modded cars. But, once you're right foot adjusts, it's actually pretty good.
You can "tune" it completely off with BM3 or Ecutek tuner, i.e., Bend calibration.

you can do this with a BM3 tuner. its like $600. Once you have the laptop and obd2 to usb cable there are guys here like alex@alpine that can tune your steering to the CS or GTS calibration.

on my 2015 i run a CS engine tune, CS edc, GTS steering, GTS diff. Rev match off in sport but on in sport+ and efficient.

That was me and it still works RobManser I had the same concerns as you. To add insult to injury, my dealer refused to acknowledge that it wasn't supposed to revmatch in sport plus even after I showed him BMW literature that proved my point. So I played around a bit and found I could turn it off in all modes by following the sequence above, so I posted it in an earlier thread. A few responders said they'd try it out but a couple said it didn't work for them, and others didn't come back with an update.

I bought a BM3 license mainly to custom set burbles, open exhaust valves in sport and sport+ for all RPMs, and to turn off rev match in all modes not for the actual engine tune.

It's the non-linearity that I hate in Sport and Sport+. I've raced for just over twenty years, and all purpose built racing cars are completely linear in steering and throttle, so you can use both to steer the car predictably. Make either non-linear and it ruins that, at least for my poor little brain; I just can't cope with a cm of throttle doing one thing at one point and another at another point. I drive my road cars the same way (just a lot slower of course!).

My ideal setting would be Eco Pro throttle, but without the lag at the top of the pedal, and the DSC and TC relaxed.

Thank you, that's really helpful. It may be something that works on some model years, but not others? It sounds like coding is another option if it doesn't work.

Thanks. I just checked and yep, page 54 of the manual covers rev-matching settings. :-)

So what is the lowest cost to "tune-out" rev matching?

all the info you need is here:

https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...416d0d8b8fc578

For the engine tune and rev matching settings you need to buy BM3 or Ecutek software.

What page does he discuss that?

bm3 can alter the engine tune and rev match settings, but can't change your steering/edc/diff along with the other stuff on that page. i think you may just have to use the bm3 software. i dont know of anything cheaper.

MHD also has an option for this:

"Adjustable rev-matching for 6MT (eco, sport, sport plus)"

Will look into this...

but- did any of these coders figure out a way to have a button that
simply turns rev matching on and off at any of the mode settings?
