The motor oil drains at an incredible speed and volume (performed my first oil change this past weekend).

On the same note, BMW oil is super expensive...WTF?!?

On a related note...the drain and fill plugs for the manual transmission are also super expensive.

I havent noticed the oil draining any faster than other cars I have owned. And it only holds 6.5L.

Also BMW branded oil is usually $7-9/L at the dealership which I dont think is expensive at all and probably in line with most other car brands. Additionally, you can buy LL-01 certified oil in 5qt jugs at walmart for around $26. Pretty inexpensive if you ask me

Check out this video:

The oil drained from my car in a similar fashion. The volume of oil coming out is significantly higher compared to other vehicles for which I've changed motor oil. Perhaps your experience differs. I don't understand your comment about the oil capacity in relation to what I'm saying.

This is the first time I've purchased dealership/manufacturer oil, which was around $8.50/L (after discount). If this is the same as what other dealers sell their oil for, then oil from dealers are just expensive (as are all OEM parts). All dealers selling their oil for a similar price does not mean the oil is not expensive. Consider the fact that Mobil 1 (which I typically use for in my vehicles) can be purchased for much less (especially when there are sales/promos occurring).

Buying LL-01 certified oil from Walmart is not purchasing it from the dealer, so my comment doesn't apply to such a scenario.

I haven't changed my manual gear oil yet, but I was under the impression the plugs are reusable and there are no gaskets. Are you saying otherwise?

You mentioned the oil draining at a great volume so I said the engine only holds 6.5L, the volume of oil.

I guess it's all relative but even at $8.50/L I don't think $60 is that much money for an M car oil change. Also, you didn't specify where you bought the oil so I mentioned that you can get BMW spec oil at places other than the dealership for significantly less money. Just trying to help out.

You can get a complete oil change kit including 7 liters of ///M oil, filter, O-rings, crush washer, and free shipping at both ECS Tuning and GetBMWParts for a pretty decent price. I always look for the next sale after I've changed my oil so I have some ready for the next one.

2018 F80 ZCP DCT - Beast Mode after Break-In Service?

Picked up the car yesterday after its break-in service and I swear it feels like a different animal. Engine feels more alive, exhaust note seems louder, and the speed is absolutely ridiculous. I thought the Service only called for an oil change and differential fluid change. But it feels like someone hit the "Go" button. Anyone else experience this or am I imagining things?

I know it unlocks LC... maybe you're just now letting it rev freely instead of being careful about the limits?

Maybe... It drives like a bat out of hell now. We pushed it a little bit even before break-in, and the car's response now seems like it's on another level. Absolutely wicked.

PS - What's LC?

I'm back in a BMW again after driving Audi for a couple of years. My 8th BMW and first M. Previous one was an E89 sDrive30i and was really looking forward to BMW and an inline 6.

Anyway picked up an F82 M4 today, full leather, adaptive LED, comfort access, etc. Also have the mirror package 430, with 'Bordsteinautomatik'. But apparently you can only fold the mirrors by using the switch. Is there a setting that you can make the mirrors fold when locking the car? My Audi and BMW Z4 did this. Did a search but looks like the M4 does not.

I had my car coded to do this, but maybe the newer ones have a setting somewhere.

Congrats on the new car.

The only way this can be achieved is to get that feature coded. There a many features that you can code at the same time.

Thanks! Was afraid so. Could always get used to folding the mirrors with the switch when getting out off the car. Funny though it's not coded that way from factory
