Good event for the new car

Haven't done this before, but sounds like a kick! Hope my car is here in time.

I'd be up for it but I doubt I'll get my car before then.. My car just went into production this morning so I hope to get it early August sometime.

Maryhill

Booked it for Sunday (Saturday sold out). Bringing the wife and continuing on to Walla Walla for a couple days. Should be a nice break.

I did this event a few years ago and had a great time. The group drive out was fun also. Since I have moved onto track events and actually view Mary hill a bit more dangerous if driven hard. I hear about more accidents from Maryhill "club drives" then accidents at the track. Take it easy and everyone should come home with a shiny car.

Yeah, some guy put his car into a tree a couple years ago, coming back down the hill, I hear!

Tree, fire, flipping a convertible on its top, etc. There can be leaves and cow pies on the lower road.........above there is no protection if you go off.......you would roll down the steep hill. I haven't heard of anyone going off on the upper sections but a car would be done. In addition to this day I would recommend a track day.......you owe it to yourself!

Well, should pick up my car Saturday (assuming truck gets here tomorrow). Won't give much time for break in for this event, but I'll take it easy.

I hope to stop by the dealership and take a peek at one and drive. I know a M4 owner is planning on C&C Saturday and maybe a long drive afterwards. He is also trying to put some break in miles on the car.

Stopped by for an hour this morning. Off to The Dalles this afternoon, Maryhill Loops drive tomorrow, then on to Walla Walla. That should be good for 600 miles.

What a great event and good group of people & cars. I did 5 runs on the challenging 2 mile (each way) course before we left for Walla Walla midday. Took my wife a couple times and she loved it! Photos to follow.

Here are some photos. Beautiful scenic area above the Columbia River. The Stonehenge is a replica built by Sam Hill, and there is also a museum with many original Rodin sculptures.

The two-mile road was built in 1911 as a demonstration project (first paved road in Washington), and was repaved in 1999. It is private, and BMW CCA Portland Chapter rented it for the weekend. It was a very well-run and organized event. I ran the morning of the second day. It is not a timed or speed event; everyone goes at their own pace (cars are started when the one ahead is halfway up). It's quite demanding with 25 turns and 8 hairpins. Travel down is done more leisurely in convoy after everyone is up to the top.

Car had about 375 miles on it. I am in no way an experienced high-performance driver, but I must say I was able to hammer the F82 pretty hard. There is virtually no understeer, and the torque pulls you out of corners easily. I did most of it in 2nd with a few quick shifts to 3rd. Settings were Sport throttle, Sport+ suspension, Sport steering and MDM for DSC. Suspension and tires provide tons of grip. I did flub a couple 2-3 shifts, but transmission is quite good. Oil temp stayed right at 220 despite 90-degreee air temp.

The whole experience was a blast and gives me confidence in the car.

ooooh. I like that last picture!

hahaha!

Thanks for coming along. it was definitely a great event and probably our best year yet.

I had the chance to drive an e92 m3 and the 600whp supercharged M3 Cabrio up the road as well as my own modest E36 M3 cabrio. it was a great time. Thanks for the pics.

You're not wasting any time breaking her in, she looks great btw! I need to hit that next year, looks like a great event. What are your first impressions of your M4 coming from an e92? Cool pics, thanks for posting.

Some miscellaneous impressions:
- Handling is superb. Virtually no understeer and tremendous grip. Despite the large drop offs with no guardrails at this event I had no fear.
- Torque is superb. This car is so much faster than my E92.
- Speed is effortless. Easy to go much faster than you think you are. I got up to 125 a couple times on the way East from here in seconds. Passing is slower traffic is child's play.
- Seats are great
- Tires are quiet except on rough pavement when they become quite loud.
- Minor annoyances: Traffic flow info on Nav not nearly as good as my '08. Backup camera not nearly as good as on my '12 ML. Can't turn off PDC beeps when backing into garage without also turning off camera.
- Saw 24.5 mpg average in 260 miles on return trip at mostly 70-80. Mileage falls off quickly around town or when hammering it, as is to be expected. Smaller fuel tank than E92 is NOT appreciated.
- Oil temps stay stable at 220 even with 100-degree heat and AC on.
- With MDM DSC set chirps in first 3 gears.
- Manual tranny better than my E92, and I expect to get better with miles.
- I had many positive comments on the sound of the car when it's driven hard. I like it, as well.

I will almost definitely do exhaust. Stock is surprisingly not bad, but I don't like the Active feature (prefer manual setting) and I thin it may be improved upon.
