Not an F8x M3/M4, but we bought an extended warranty on my wife's 2011 335is Coupe a few months before the originally warranty expired because we had experienced a relatively large number of warranty fixes during the original 4 years. Coming from Japanese cars for the previous 20 years, this concerned us.
During the original warranty, she had the exhaust flapper valves replaced, the sunroof motor replaced, the battery replaced, the front turbo replaced (N54 engine), the charge pipe replaced, and the front bumper repainted due to the paint peeling. During the extended warranty, she had the water pump replaced, the entire engine replaced due to a spun bearing, the rear main seal replaced, and six injectors, six spark plugs, and 2 coil packs replaced. Less than three weeks after the extended warranty expired last month, the rear turbo failed. BMW offered to pay for the price of the turbo if we picked up the labor cost. Our dealer charged us a reduced, "warranty labor rate" of $1400. I can't wait to get rid of that car! I fully intend to purchase an extended warranty before the original warranty expires on my 2016 M4 Coupe. Even if I don't have to use it, but I cost-average it with the extended warranty on the 335is, I'll still be ahead!

Ordered and bought mine in 5/15. Drove it nearly 57,000 miles and not a single issue at all. I obviously brought it in for all the scheduled maintenance and thankfully only brought it in one other time at the end of the warranty to have anything addressed before it fell out of warranty. I paid for an alignment. That is it. So just one set of tires and an alignment in 3 years out of pocket.
