I have to say, I'm not convinced that this sounds bad.

In fact, I find myself wondering how they've made it sound related to the S85. Am I the only one who hears a hint of that signature moan?

Listen back to back. Sure, very different. But really when the S55 is wound out I think there is some definite similarity in tone if not frequency.

Exactly my thoughts. It shouldn't be hard to make a turbo 6 sound good.

And the M3 "roots" aren't technically an I6 like you mentioned. And it's roots certainly aren't Turbo.

It's just disappointing.

I agree with you, they could have made it sound better, but sound is subjective. To some, the S55 may actually be an improvement in the sound department (I do not fall in this category).

The first 3 motors you mentioned share the same "racey" note. The only exception to the list in terms of engine note is the S65 IMO, which has only spoiled us since '07.

I have no idea why people are so defensive on how the car sounds.

I've seen/heard many youtube videos of many different car exhausts. Stop using "terrible sound recording" as an excuse. We've seen more than enough videos to make a determination now.

Here it is: It sounds like crap.

Don't like it? Change the exhaust. It's not that hard. This won't effect my decision on whether or not to buy this car. If it effects yours, then you are probably buying it for the wrong reasons.

It's easy to forgive the exhaust sound on pre E9X M3s due to the fantastic induction noise which is actually much more important for the experience of driving the car. The problem with the F8X is that exhaust note is all we have in terms of natural sound since the induction noise is electronically amplified through the speakers. It's hopefully very well done since it's what we need to put our faith in. There is no way I'm ripping out a brand new quality system built by Akra and tuned by BMW M and spend a couple of grand on another system.

As the guys just said but no1 paid attention: KEEP IN MIND THE VALVES IN THE EXHAUST WERE CLAUSED OFFFFFFFF IN THE VIDEO. You CANT SPORT + EXHAUT MODE until the car is completely WARMED UP. In the video the engine was still COLD.
