My last M product was an e46 m3 over a decade ago, and the S54 had an intoxicating unique raspy note to it and revving it right out was a joy. The S55, with my MPE, to me has a bit of both the N55 growl and S54 rasp at higher rpm, but not the best aspects of either. I've said it before, MPE + ZCP (+ my eventuri intake) is about as good and characterful as the S55 is ever going to sound - removing the cats, especially in the downpipe, makes them sound like an absolute wheezy mess. In isolation it's actually not as bad as i make it out, and had i of come from any other engine it probably wouldn't bother me I'm fortunate (or maybe unfortunate when comparing S55) in also sharing my daily duties with a v8 f-type, and that engine and exhaust is just all theatre I'll assume a lot of existing M2 owners will gripe over the noise, but end of the day still make the trade for the fact bmw have put an actual M motor in it and the much greater tuning potential that comes with it |

I agree with you that in terms of Quality zcp and mpe mid high rpm is just about the benchmark but products like remus Fi add mostly quantity of sound and not much in terms of quality. Downpipes are more of the same as they just add more volume.
If you want a change sell your mpe and buy a aamidpipe with remus axleback. The setup kind of detracts from how the m3 should sound but maybe thats a good thing ? |

it's the engine itself and turbo config that is producing the odd soundtrack, if it was just an exhaust issue, the aftermarket would have sorted that by now you can have some fun with the wastegate brap jumping off throttle, spool with an intake and zcp burble in hills, but under wot it just lacks the M character of old |

Didnt want to dampen the enthusiasm but does not sound all that great.M2 already sounds and drives great so the cp will need to be special else where.
Heres my m3 starting up with a simple remus catback and cs software. |

I was talking about the m2 cp not sounding all that great dom obviously not your beast hehe. I will wait and see on the m2 cp but havent ruled out just keeping the m3 and adding a used 981 cayman or a m2 to the garage for car porn.

I'm very curious about this too. Given it seems like this will be the only model on sale going forwards with the N55 no longer meeting emission regulations, it could very well be priced similarly to the current M2. With the M3 pure going for $119k DA pre negotiations, it's a good time to be shopping for a M car!

I was told around 130k, this was before the latest pics and specs were released though so I'd be very surprised if it's priced this high tbh, apart from the engine the changes aren't big enough to warrant a huge increase.

Random (slightly) non-related question time - I like the 'Competition' trunk badge which sits directly underneath the M2. Anyone know where to get this (even if copy) as I want one to place underneath my M3 trunk badge... ;p (no really, I do!)

I have a FirstChoice with an underground car park - My F80 CP or Mrs F15 50i - best sounds ever! I want to book in the staff to go in and have a rev with no customers. I now know what tunnels are about!

It has a carbon roof, at least it’s an option, search for M2 competition m performance and you will see all the parts, it’s got a CF roof
