Hmm. You might be right. I am interested to hear what your solution ends up being.

Dropped the car off this AM. Took a ride with their master tech, and man does that guy know his stuff! He may be more into this than we are. We did an A/B ride in my car, vs a '16 used they had on the lot. The difference was big, and he noticed it after riding in the other car. They have the car and are going to swap the tires/rims with that car to see if it goes away. Will keep everyone posted.

Intreresting! I took a ride with a buddy of mine today (former tire salesman) and his best guess was that the tires is the cause of the drone. We drove the car on a super smooth road today, and there are vibrations coming from the rear axle as well.

This here also and like the OP describes at 110-120 km/h.

I think it's the diff or something that turns pretty slowly in that vicinity because the vibration is really like ½ Hz. Not droning like an exhaust drone. Very subtle. You feel it, you don't hear it.

I do long, 3 hours flat highway, drives pretty often and notice it every time after a while. Then it gets really annoying when you realize you still have more than 2 hours of driving to do...

My differential was replaced under guarantee - no help, even worse. They change rotors, bearings, drive shaft and many more parts (16 times in SA) BMW told me, after 14 months of tried to fix it, that's normal and I need use to it. Additionally, I have steering wheel shaking around 115 - 135 km/h (not a tires or rims). Of course it's normal too. It's definitely something wrong with our cars...
My car is 2015 M3.

I have the some problem between 90-130km on heavy acceleration. They changed the diff and shaft under warranty. The vibration notably got less but there is still some vibration which is not normal even passenger can feel it.. I dont what to do cause everything seems fine, we check and try with other tyres, rims even with another axis. I think something chronicle, some parts doesnt match with each other..

Update on my car - service called, they claim putting the rims/tires from the other car on my car made no difference, and the reason my car does this is because it is a ZCP car... I just rolled my eyes. Good news is they still want to sort it out. I just asked to do an A/B against a new ZCP car when one comes in, which they happaily said yes to. Got my CA involved too, and they are all over it. Bad news, no new ZCP M3's in sight for a while, they are waiting for their 2018s at this point. I will keep this thread updated as I go along.

i have taken mine a total of 4 times for the same problem. 6500 miles on it

Things done to it so far
Tire swaps
Wheel swaps
Differential replacement.

I also get the dreaded "fuel system failure drive moderately" problem too..

This car has been more time on the lift than i can count. last time they informed me that they had no idea on what the problem is and that they contacted BMW AG for further support.

I contacted a lawyer here in Bavaria. I have lost product confidence on the car. i would understand if i treated the car like shit but if i say this car has been treated like royalty is an understatement.

Garage List
2017 BMW M4  [10.00]
How to fix:
1) connect phone via USB cable
2) search for LL Cool J's "Cars that go boom"
3) Turn volume to 85% max

You will soon discover that the annoying drone is gone...

Hi everyone, and update on my side. Picked my car up this AM and, after a differential swap, the noise is significantly improved. There is still a slight drone, but we drove a 2018, and it exhibited the same issue. So I can live with it. Certainly not as comfortable as my E90 M3!

Update on my car too.

Dealer wants to replace the diff on my car aswell. I hope this solves it, I'm so sick of that stupid humming sound.

Keeping my fingers crossed!

Good luck with your problems guys.

2016, 6MT, 437s/snows and aftermarket wheels/RE71s here with no humming/droning issues.

I have a 16 non zcp manual f80. Had the same drone sound you are describing. I got my drive shaft and differential replaced with new redesigned units. Drive shaft is shorter and differential neck is longer to accommodate the shorter drive shaft. That took care of the problem... The m master mechanic said the carbon fiber drive shaft is so light that a minuscule change in Mass can cause it to become our of balance at high speed. He also said they tend to warp with heat.
