I actually drive the car normally in most commuting situations because it's the opposite for me; I don't need to prove anything to anyone.
The M3 is far from being the first.

In the ///M world, the M5 came before it. And many other "sport sedans" from BMW and other brands before it.

A 535 portrays a very different image compared to an M3. One is a luxury sedan, the other a high-performance sedan. The color of your vehicle likely also contributes to the increased attention.

Holy shit I get so aggravated when I'm just cruising in traffic and people constantly need to cut into my lane when there's not enough space.

Even when there is space and I'm in the right lane they cut in so fucking close to my car it aggravates the shit out of me.

I drive my parents cars and stuff all the time and this kind of thing never happens in any other car.
What part of NJ are you in? I live in Jersey City, and no offense to people from NJ but this state has the biggest collective of asshole drivers I've ever seen, not a single asshole from here knows how to drive. I'm sure you are one of the exceptions however!

Just be careful and be aware of all cars around you!

I blame all the commercials, ie marketing hype, for the over enthusiasm we have on the roads today. They all now put out cars/trucks that are capable of giving you “heart racing experiences”.

Wow, skimming through everyone's story of contemptible drivers is like reading my journal; I thought this $hit only happens to me..

For the life of me, I cannot figure out why people choose to single me out and tailgate my ass, in four lane highway; all while I'm in the "slow" lane.

My theory is that everyone wants to be that guy in the fast, flashy car, so their try to project, even with their less than capable vehicles. I mean, arrogance aside, I see folks zooming by me in a Corolla doing over 90 and I be amazed.. Like 'how do you safely do that..' ? The last time I attempted to do over 80 in a Corolla; it started shaking like it had Tourette's Syndrome..

Everyday now it's been happening.

People always wait for me to start getting close and then they swerve into my lane without signaling.

It's *so* fucking annoying.

Occasionally I encounter a-hole drivers trying to prove something. It's usually a wrx, genesis, g35/37, or honda accord. People seem to gun it at a light just to cut me off or cut me off while driving when there is no one behind me and no room in front between the next car.

I'm also from NJ... the land of "fake t*ts and real a**holes"

I had a guy in a bruised up A6 follow me around town for about a half hour.

I think he just wanted to hear/see the car.

I thought the E30 was the original sports sedan, and the M3 derives from it?

First E30 was 1985 and first E28 M5 was 1986 according to Wikipedia...

The E12 M535i was launched in 1979, the E28 M5 in 1985 and the E30 M3 in 1986.

There were many other "sports sedans" before those.

I do feel like people tend to tailgate me a lot...but even in slow traffic or at a light I feel like the car behind me ALWAYS wants to scoot up super close to my rear.

It's amazing how driving a full size truck keeps the aholes at bay. I love driving my truck. Driving a sports car is asking for guys in minivans to show you what they can do.

Yea, that's funny.. My friend has the same reasoning.. He purposely made his daily a Nissan Titan with the crash-bar halfway removed, so it just has two steel spikes on both side.. He told me he NEVER have a problem with people fvcking with him like in his convertible bimmer.. I get a kick out of that notion.

Although incredibly anecdotal, I find regions/states to form driver groups (bad) more than car brands/models...

For instance, every. single. time. I see a car from Mass or Quebec it's doing something it shouldn't be, i.e. cutting someone off, doing 15 under the speed limit while half way in different lanes, driving straight for miles with blinker on, turning left or right with OPPOSITE turn signal on...Jesus...this is why prejudices exist
