Steering wheel doesn't seem as thick as that of past generation M3s

I don't know, I may just be getting used to it, but is the steering wheel on modern M3/4 not as fat as earlier model versions?

It definitely seems to have thinned out throughout the years. I remember the steering wheel on my z4m was thick as hell.

Overall the current one is not a bad wheel but could probably be a little smaller diameter wise to make the steering feel a little quicker.

Definitely fatter than the competition - one of my favorite parts of the car.

Love the steering wheel!

You should see all the drama created as a result of those of us who ordered the new X3 M40i and are not getting the 710 M Steering Wheel but the same wheel as a standard X3--significantly thinner and definitely not as nice looking. Only the NA-markets were robbed of the wheel, all other markets are getting it. Never knew a steering wheel could create such emotion, and I too am pissed! Although, I've got something up my sleeve that I hope pans out once I take delivery in a few weeks..fingers crossed!

The top portion might be the same as the standard M wheel but the sides and bottom are much thicker then stock.

Could use a thicker steering wheel, but I feel what's more of an issue is the leather gets sticky really easily. Any bit of sweaty palms makes it not feel comfortable to grip.

Definitely not as thick, had a ZCP e46 M3 and LOVED the alacantra wheel that came with it - very thick and great grip.

New steering wheel will be one of my first "mods" to my M3 or M4.

10000% agree with this. I thought it was just me...I've had every generation M3 and this one definitely gets sticky and gross way faster than any previous car I've owned. This is the main thing I don't enjoy about the interior. I wasn't planning on changing the wheel when I bought the car, but may do it just for this purpose. I love the heated steering wheel (for about 10 seconds), but it exacerbates the issue.

I've been looking for a steering wheel cover if anyone has any suggestions.

I actually like the thinner design, but the leather skin on the stock wheel is not great.

The steering wheel may have thinned out over the generations but they made up for it by adding bulk everywhere else on the M product line... sigh

Only say this because I drove my buddies e46 m3 the other and forgot how fun that car was.

It's about as thick as the one in my 2002 M5. The thickest one is in my 2007 Z4M coupe - it's almost comical. It's interesting that Porsche purposefully makes their steering wheels thinner and some journalists comment that the M wheels are too thick...

I would rather see the diameter shrink a little more than anything.

Lots of large sweaty pawed M owners.

Current heated wheel is perfection. I must have Trump-sized hands.

No M sport wheel for X3 M40i in NA? Hmmm, so here's a great idea: let's remove a hugely popular feature we've included in all other M Sport lines in NA, but not this one, and all other markets get it. BMW's product folks heads are firmly up their a$$es.
