6MT and the Neutral Jiggle
Does anyone else jiggle the shifter when putting it in neutral just to make sure?
I've always had a habit of doing this but now the damn thing keeps rev matching to 2nd gear when I do the jiggle. Maybe I need to cut the habit. xD |

Yes - habit my dad taught me, of course the dash tells you now what gear you're in so the jiggle may be a bit redundant and I find myself checking the dash. I've never set off rev matching...how hard you jiggling it?!

Oh yes, I definitely do the jiggle.
It doesn't rev match for me when I jiggle it, but it does rev match when I take it out of gear. I guess the car thinks I'm going into the gear directly above or something.

Premature rev match when jiggling the stick too hard. Not something I thought I'd have to worry about at my age.

I used to do it, but I've fallen out of the habit lately. Perhaps that's why my toilets are always running.

You must have come from driving manual Hondas haha because I still do that too to align the syncros for easier entry into R. I throw it in third then into R.

I do the jiggle as well. It's something my dad used to do in the old Supra I learned to drive manual in. Frankly I kinda like hitting the gates and forcing a little off power rev match blip. Certainly wakes up the soccer moms next to me in the school car drop off line.

I was watching an episode of Smoking Tire not to long ago and Matt Farah checked for neutral (the "jiggle") at least 10 times while talking to the cars owner. I never really got the jiggle, especially the multiple times back and forth.
Once you the pull shifter out of gear and let go, it naturally centers so I don't give it a second thought as I know it is in neutral, no jiggle necessary. If it doesn't center I leave the clutch in and then check, but that is fairly rare. Last edited by Pic18; 01-04-2018 at 03:16 PM.. Reason: spelling |

Seems like many on here though are indicating that they picked up the habit from watching someone else drive stick and/or teaching them. |
