2018 M3 CP - Delivery Day Damage?
All:
So I took delivery of a new M3 CP on 12/4/17... When I had xPel applied to the front end the details shop noticed a bump on the lower fascia in the center. Upon looking at it further its like something depressed against it either from the flat bed that dealer transferred it, or sometime before. Not scratches under or above... Car has only 700 miles... Dealer is like When I go in for the first service I plan to ask for a solution. Suggestions? Outside of replacing the entire bumper, what other ideas? I know the car will eventually get wear, but pissed a $82k sticker car had a cosmetic issue and they aren't offering a resolution yet... |

you put 700 miles on the car already before you noticed the issue? or you bought the car with 700 miles on it?
its tough once you leave the dealership to hold the dealership accountable. how do you know it wasn't from something else? It will depend on the dealer but I think you are going to have a tough time getting any dealer to do much TBH. Good luck

I'm confused. So some of this response may be off based on how I interpreted your question. How much time went by between delivery and when you noticed the damage or whatever? I understand that the guy you took it to has a hypothesis of how it happened, but without proof, why should the dealer be responsible?
Sorry this isn't the help you probably were looking for, but as soon as you took delivery, the dealer probably doesn't have responsibility unless you can prove that the damage occurred under their care before your delivery. What GOLFRR said also, the dealer may be willing to do you a solid, but it would literally be a favor. Last edited by SMGCFP; 01-31-2018 at 10:14 AM.. Reason: previous reply |

For clarification: I didn't notice the damage at delivery at 12 miles. Took the car in for xPel at 600 miles.
The photos are from delivery day and it is clear the damage is there delivery day but it is so subtle I didn't notice. Must have been the excitement of finally getting my M3... Point being, the small damage is there the day I picked it up so I didn't cause it, photos are date, time, and location stamped. First photo is the dealer delivery room. |

Unfortunately it is your responsibility to fully inspect the car before taking delivery and driving off the lot. I've heard of some people taking 2 HOURS to inspect the car before driving off. That's why you should always take delivery during the day in full sunlight so you can see defects. Taking delivery on a rainy/snowy night is probably the worst idea.

Cars get minor bumps and bruises at dealerships all the time. Most dealers try to patch, or I should say mask the issue as best as possible. Basically, if it's barely noticeable to untrained eyes, then the dealer will only take action if the issue gets brought up. Otherwise, it's all up to the buyer to spot any defects.
Some dealers may deny these kind of things ever happening, but I have friends who work in the auto industry that tell me funny stories about what goes on behind the scenes. |

If you have photograph evidence like you said, it's worth a try. I had a hard time finding the bump that you mentioned though. Did you mean in the middle of the bottom part of the bumper?

Ouch, I see it. I try to look over every inch of the car to find issue such as that. I have had issues on my wife’s last 2 cars, that I caught during my inspection.

Thanks for clarifying. Yeah that sucks. I never would've noticed either. I am not a detail guy though. I hope you can get some kind of remedy, but the dealer may not help.

Don’t beat yourself up over it, hell I missed an extreamly shallow dent in my new 911, I mean I could only see it in a certain light and and a certain angle. I completely could not see it in bright sunlight, come to find out from my PDR guy, it’s very common on 911s, on the drivers side upper rear fender, he thinks it’s from transportation. Either way it was easy work for the PDR guy. I am OCD, but would have never seen it, as I found it 2 months later when I was parked in my dark garage and I opened the roll up door with it being bright outside. I posted about it in the Porsche forum causing several new owners to go look at their 911 and find the same mark in the same spot. I am sure my post pissed them off, lol.
Hopefully the dealer helps, if not just get it fixed.

Pic is all you need. I wonder if they could repair by heating it? Hate the idea of a new bumper, but that damage would drive me nuts. I would call BMW asap and explain. They will make it right. Just point out that you have pictures at the dealer before you picked up.

Quote:
a) get the dealer to acknowledge this and confirm they will be taking care of or b) contact BMW USA and explain what happened. I did B when I had an incident with my X6 hatch (long story short, it opened while I was in motion and scratched on a sprinkler head in a parking garage). BMW contacted me, got the details and then authorized the dealer to make the repairs. Ultimately, BMW will be paying for this I suspect - alas, the dealer could be in trouble for not noticing the issue as well. So I'd give them a quick call and say "hey, since I'm looking at these pictures of the damage on delivery day, I wanted to see if you wanted to be the one to take care of it, or I should just contact BMW USA?"

Yeah that's pretty visible and makes a good case for you. I recommend taking that photo to the dealer asap and see if they can figure out a solution that you're comfortable with.

I’d be pissed but consider it a non-issue since you’ve racked up several hundred miles. Take it as you busting your cherry. My F80 is lowered and stuff is just out of your control sometimes. If you get it fixed, i can almost guarantee you’ll get another boo-boo.

With that delivery picture, I can't imagine the dealer denying it. Another board member had a similar depression on his car (http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1307392) but I'm not sure how long after delivery he found it.
