I haven't even figured out what I will do in 4 months when the lease ends on the car I have now. I'm all over the place. I have no idea what I will do in 3 years...

Well my lease is up on my 16' civic M4 in 2019 so it's gonna be one more ED on an F82 before the next model comes out.

It's a long way off for the next model and it's tough to say what BMW will do. It kinda looks like ///M wants to be Audi (AWD and Auto transmissions) which is a shame IMO.

I'm not sure where to go if I left BMW. Merc and Porsche are for old dudes and Audi bores me. I just might whip out the gold chains, grow a mullet and go American muscle

A non-trivial number of people who have a 2016 or 2017 F80 now will turn it and move into something else before the G80 is available. Now it is possible that some of those folks get a 2019 or 2020 M4, but many sedan buyers need those four doors.
This will be my ordeal my lease is up Jan 2020 but even if I was to get the G80 I wouldn’t want the first year model.

Exactly, when I look at my previous 2013 Mustang Convertible with a soft top and how it looks like a skeleton and you can see all the metal under the fabric, it looks fugly

After that car, I swore to never buy a fabric top convertible! Maintaining it was a bitch as well and the colors faded after only 3 months even though it's always parked in covered parking. It looked grey like a 10 year old car.

I will have to wait for the G8x LCI cause I hear the front LED lights will be replaced with freaking laser beams. Then all the folks who went all in for pre LCI will have Laser envy....but justify the goodness of the underpowered LED system......and of course tease me for holding out when I could of been enjoying the new model’s Improved performance and driving dynamics making my current F80 look like a piece of junk....JK. Looking forward to seeing the reality of the next generation.

My lease is up in 2021... will either marry (purchase) a new M3/M4, or get a 911.

All in all, life is good.

Unlikely, unless BMW knocks it out of the park. Based on what information is out there it doesn't seem like they're going to break the mold.

Looking at mid engine corvette or Porsche next. Or maybe I'll realize my teenage dreams and buy a fully loaded supra and dump another 40k on turning it into an jdm dream car.

My JAG XK has a fabric top. It is fully lined and when it is up from inside the car it appears the same as the top on my M4. My major complaint about it is the small rear window. But that being said I seriously doubt I would buy an M4 with a canvas top.

Hate to say it but more likely to get x3m than m3

It's going to be used as family hauler so tall hatch is better than sedan

I've posted previously that if G series goes for lightweight, more aero support, wider tires it could change my mind on m3

Kinda hard to say for me. I would like to stick with BMW M but lately I've been eyeing used GT3's and Huracans. They seem perfect out of the box and I'm getting kinda tired of buying an M and then dumping $20-30k modding it.

I'm not sure if you are busting on the Ford, or fabric tops in general, but the E46 M3 had the same skeleton visible. I found the maintenance to be easy and the top looked great. I owned it for something like 2 years and 35k miles, admittedly not that long.

I personally won't own a G. I love my car, but I don't like the payment. I'll be downscaling.

My lease is up at the end of 2019. Which is, unfortunately, kind of in-between new M3 or 911 debut.

Right now I'm not that excited about what we're hearing about the new M3.

I may end up just buying my M3 and keep it. Or I might get a certified 911.

I'd really like a 911 someday, but I really enjoy the M3. Ideally I'll have both. :-)

In the 1960s various GM models had hard tops that simulated the shape of a rag top. And that was followed by years of American cars that had vinyl clad steel roofs to emulate the look of a ragtop.

I'm actually getting a bit excited about the G80 M3 based on the positive reviews of the F90 M5. The only things I don't like about the F90 is its size and the lack an available MT. So...an G80 with 500ish HP/TQ, MT, and M xDrive...I think it would be pretty sweet.

I think I may check out an manual M2 Competition and let the first 1-2 years of the G80 play out before I commit.

BMW will likely have my business until it stops making MT cars.

As Snappy Phoenix and GrussGott have mentioned, not happy about the future G83 going back to soft top. Have an other order for the F83 prior to EOP, as going back to the E93 (non M), 5 hard tops in a row spanning over 15 years. Having a X5M, that's my 4 door vehicle. I'll hold judgement until the soft top is released, doubt the M8 vert as that would be 2 big chassis vehicles. Maybe a G82 CS, but living in coastal SC with 12 months of top down diving, probably a G83. I'm loyal to BMW without a test drive, as it's just a 3 year lease if your not happy.

If interest rates keep rising, it'll be interesting to see how that affects buyer choices / needs.

There's a lot of people in a lot more car right now that may be the case if rates rise ... I could see a lot of Gs on discount.

There must be a manual for me to even ponder it. Big bonus would be a rev match button to turn it OFF, and on I guess for those that like it (ALL DRIVE MODES).

Like so many others here, it depends on whether the next-gen offers a MT. If it does, I'll stick with BMW. If I'm forced into an AT, all bets are off and I'll cross-shop Audi, Merc and who knows who else. I'm hoping BMW gives me one more MT but I'm realistic and know that one more gen is the best I can hope for.

Not at the moment unless its groundbreaking. I will buy a v8 before the electric future sets open us,Also always in back of my mind is 911.1 gts if prices drop another 20 % from where they are now (260k) .If i go turbos it will with a v8 and awd not 6.
