LOL! That's so sad but I completely understand. Let's hope not for your sake as well as many others. I am confident in the new F80's ability to have, once again, raised the bar. We will know more once more people have gotten behind the wheel.

Sounds similar to 335is, in a good way. Nothing unique or exotic though.

Went back to history...this seems to be VERY close to M3 GTS performance albeit in hotter weather. M3 GTS performance is likely to be a good indicator of what a FBO M3 E9x can do.

(zoom in)

Hockenheimring time from FBO E92 M3 from highly respected tuner a-workx (beat the GTS time):

Regardless the new M3 seems very fast.

Beautiful car! Perfect color combo!
Pretty much exactly how I would order mine!

Thank you for taking the time to write this long review out, as well as taking all the photos.

You're really making it hard to not want to purchase one!!!

It's amazing that you seem to be getting 25mpg! Love that. Also, the car sounds way better in your videos than from those previously posted.

Enjoy!

dont know why people say its slow, just by looking at that launch video it seems faster than E9X M3. but after hearing the outside acceleration videos, it clearly becomes obvious that the in-cabin noise is all fake and the real sound reminded me to tfsi golf gti with dsg. tremendous disappointment for me.

still want to hear it in person to make the final conclusion but so far nearly scratched the new m3 off my list..cant wait to see what the c63 is like.

+1 after the months of build up by bmw I must admit I am feeling a bit underwhelmed too

Look at the"km/u" and compare time/speed with your "watch" and than you know how fast it is....!

The problem with the new M3 is that more power can't easily be obtained without replacing the turbos. It's also a 3 liter engine after all (albeit with a very strong closed deck engine block), and the stock turbos are probably not very large (in order to minimize inertial lag). The compression ratio of 10.2:1 is another factor that reduces the immediate tuning potential, 430hp looks quite maxed out for this engine displacement and compression ratio.

I would predict that this S55 engine cannot safely deliver more than like 30-40 extra hp safely with stock turbos (maybe just a bit more if you tune it exclusively for 93+ octane fuel by increasing power via higher timing advance, not boost), and probably like 70-90hp with larger but still stock-housing turbines, and quite a bit more with all-out turbine modifications (but losing any M3 engine low-lag characteristics). But larger turbines for the new BMW engines are notoriously hard to create, I would say it will be 2-3 years until such an option becomes available. The N55 barely has one option of upgraded turbo after 3-4 years of existence (just launched, not well tested), and the N54 upgraded turbos were also only available 3-4 years after launching.
