Lowered car in NYC - bad idea?
The front wheel gap on my 2017 F80 ZCP seems excessive and have serious thoughts about getting a HAS kit so I can lower the front a bit.
Is there anyone here living in NYC lowered their car? Any pros and cons? I just spoke to a shop and they basically talked me out of it (honest shop!). I live and work in the city so mostly a weekend car for trips outside the city or if I am going to Brooklyn or Queens with my wife and a toddler. |

Not in NYC but i drive my lowered M4 on Swifts around DC and Baltimore and I cant imagine that NYC is much worse than either of those two crapholes when it comes to roads. Be aware of big road dips, construction areas and I think you'll be fine.

If you do go for springs, do research on which ones to get. I believe going for Swift was a mistake on my end because they're much more suited for the track, I think many people are happy with Macht Schnell springs as they are less stiff but offer a good looking drop. |

is it a bad idea? yes. can you do it? yes! i'm lowered on kw has, maxed out. i don't go to the city with this car often but i have and i will again. i live in queens where roads can be just as bad as the city and any other. all my cars have been lowered except my X5. just be careful and take it slow when the roads seem bad especially with this up and down weather where pot holes thrive. good luck on whatever decision you make!

Lol man they make us pull the trigger on KW has.. I'm thinking 0.8 up front and 0.2 at the back on my F80 won't hurt huh .. now I'm reconsidering it my self .. I'm also worried about quality of a ride and EDC functionality.. Regardless of your decision let me know if u went with KW or not ..

Most NYC mechanics will tell you stories how their customers bring in cars to lower them and then come back 2 weeks later to go back to stock.
I recommend you ask some of the local to you members to give you a ride so you can see for yourself. If you rarely drive that's ok, but if it is a true DD car, you will hate it real quick.

in all honestly, a mild drop is more than enough. look into eibach springs or macht schnell springs. you won't be compromising on much. |

Just lowered my car with swift spring (regular) w/ 12mm Turner spacers.
I live in queens and i do go out to city often and it seems fine. You just have to open your eyes and concentrate on the roads especially @ night & rainy day. It's stiff but in a good way. Plus, car looks much much better, no regrets for me. hope it helped. |

i DD my m4 and I'm on KW Has kit love it. i run through queens and manhattan and long island a lot. no problems as long as you pay attention and don't drive like an idiot. the places where i seen the most damage to cars done would be harlem, bronx, brooklyn. i will probably never take my M's there just to do random things.
