Man.. BMW ruined it for everyone. Gave everyone a mean sounding V8, and now due to fuel / emissions they've gone back to a 6 Turbo, it'll never sound the same - just not possible. I'm sure this car will be a blast to drive and will quickly negate the sound difference.

So, the M3/M4 has real time engine sound being played live out of the speakers.

Ok... *shaking head*

I HAVE to think that BMW noticed that the car sounds terrible...AND put significant efforts into modifying the sound without adversely affecting in-cabin sound issues. Probably why they needed the in-cabin engine sound coming through the speakers.

Being a 4-time M3 owner/lover, I am truly saddened by the quality of sound coming from the new M3.

If an aftermarket tuner can quickly create an exhaust that is pleasant to hear both in and outside the car, I will have to question why BMW engineering spent so much time elsewhere on the car, and figured what we have here is..."good enough".

Its still interesting how my n54 335i stock sounds better then the video clip. With that said I will make my final verdict when I hear it warm, under load, and in person. But, its nothing that downpipes and Akrapovic exhaust can't fix!!

I posted earlier in this thread. I watched the M4 MotoGP safety car all weekend at the COTA race.

It has the Akra titanium exhaust. It sounds nothing like this video. It was very loud, with a much deeper tone. The rasp from earlier videos was non existent as well.

I could hear the M4 safety car when it was on the other side of the track.

Yeah. It just an example of how the car can sound with proper exhaust mods.

I expected some rasp as I went into the race weekend, from hearing the earlier videos of the safety car revving. I never once heard rasp, it had a much deeper tone. It sounds nothing like my old E46 M3.

I don't know how accurate this video is. Just take a look at the video with the convertible M4. The exhaust sounds absolutely gorgeous in that one. I also just wanted to raise a point against the argument saying that e9x M3 owners don't know what an M3 should sound like. The M3 has only been around for 4 generations and out of those 4 we have had a 4 cylinder, an 8 cylinder, and 2 6 cylinders (one of which barely existed in the US). The point is that this is the new generation of an epic car, so it should be better than the previous in every aspect, sound is one of them, and a very important one. Of course a straight six will never sound like a V8 but they can still sound good, and the competition coming out with V8s isn't exactly helping the M4's case in the sound department.

That car was such a fantastic addition to the M3 legacy. A lot of us have become spoiled with the amazing note of the S65, myself included.

Do I think the F82 sounds great right? No, I think it sounds poor actually. However, is that what I expected from a BMW M3 (4) with an inline 6 (regardless of boost)? Yes.

IMO, the E30, E36, and E46 all sounded terrible, however I wouldn't have blinked at the opportunity to own any of them. This F82 is sounding just as poor as those, and I crave it just as much
Well said.
