Try it and find out!

No it won't. You need to have TC completely off to engage smokey burnout or launch control. With MDM on, the traction control will kick in and cut power until you stop spinning.

You will have a slow time in a 1/4 mile however vs TC completely off (assuming you learn to launch it properly). Probably lose 4 to 5 tenths. I did both one day when car was close to stock and that was my experience.

Burnout mode

So we have a m day and I’m winning each drag race ... happy me Bmw m guy say it time he races me so we drag and I win the first run. Second run he seems to just power away after a slow start.

When I asked how the hell...he said these cars have a burnout mode. You basically put it in Mdm full torque similar to launch control. Tap the throttle so she rolls let off and then depress it all the all way down till it clicks. Sure enough it’s like she takes a big gulp of air and just hammers all power to the rear. Timing must be perfect through.

Learnt something new ....

Say what

That's not how to engage the "burnout mode". To do a burnout, DSC needs to be completely off, then just mash the gas pedal to the floor. The engine will rev up and the DCT will dump the clutch when the revs are almost at redline. Result: big burnout.

What your friend describes, is a good way to launch the car effectively though. Slightly tap the accelerator to get the clutch to engage and the roll on the throttle. This methods works well when using MDM because it prevents the MDM of excessively cutting back on power, but it also works well with DSC off. It is the method I use when I want to launch quickly on the street.
