Damn, this car has some bad creaking noises when its cold

We finally got down to significantly below 30 for the first time in NY today and last night (around 10°F) and my drivers side door sounds like its off an old wooden boat.

It's creaking and rattling like crazy, and its not hard to replicate, if I so much as touch the metal on the bottom of the door, it almost sounds like ice cracking. I'm beginning to consider the potential that there is actually a bunch of frozen water stuck in the bottom of the door from the rain we had the day before, and that that is what is causing the noise.

This happen to anyone else?

do you have MPE? If so there could be a crack in it which is prevalent and can cause that.

Nope, I know for the fact that its the door.

I think that because we had a huge rain storm, and then below freezing temps the next day, there is a thin layer of ice inside the door panel causing the noise.

I couldn't even open my rear drivers side door this morning to get something from the back seat. It opened about 25% of the way then got stuck. Probably a chunk of ice blocking it somewhere. DIdnt have time to check nor did I need to anyway.

It's not that in this case, I already found and fixed that, this is a different noise. Additionally, you can confirm this by lowering the window, if it was the seals the noise would stop.

This sound more like a metallic rattle/ice cracking

It's your window rubber seal is rubbing against the black door frame that created the creaking sounds, mine was just 1200 miles in and already had the same problem.

According to my dealer all F30 & F80 came with black doors trims would experience the same issue, the chrome version would not have the problem, I had a F30 & last F80 ended up with the same issue took mine in for the 1200 miles service dealer installed Teflon tape on all 4 doors plus they replaced the drive side door, so far so good.

Make an appointment and have them go through and install the Teflon tape.

nextzett 91480615 'Gummi Pflege Stift' Rubber Care Stick .

I have used this on my car since day one and rarely get any squeaks or creaking on my f80. 4years, 42k and I put in on the rubber seals when I wash my car or even every other wash.

As stated directly above your post, it's not that in this case. I've already had that taken care of.

Another thing i've noticed: seems to get alot more wind noise in this kind of weather than I do in normal temperatures. I just attribute it to the rubber door seals being harder when cold, as well as maybe some ice crystals in the door jams.

Anyone else get this?

my car makes all kinds of sounds below 40...it simply can't cover up what is inside; a sports car. I used to trace down all the sounds of my g35, and honestly it was pointless, because they would be remedied and just resurface. I feel the same way about the M, which is very refined, but def not made for cold temps; drivable yes; luxary s class rolling down the highway on all-seasons...NO

my doors rattle and squeak, Ive tried it all, the most persistent solution I've found it ignoring it and turning on the radio.

Not being a smartarse; but likely these sounds even if remedied, can be starved off for a while.

Also while going el-cheapo with ebay CF mirror caps...I hear a whistle now when i accelerate. HERE COMES THE TRAIN !!!!!!!!!!

While some may argue it has way too many rattles, and noises (especially on the M3 vs. M4) I've grown to accept it and embrace it. At the end of day its a sports car with a relatively stiff ride with lots of charming noises =).

I second this. Heck, when it gets below 40 degrees I creak like a mofo

Mine creaks like crazy.

And OMG, when it's cold out and I go over a bump on one side of the car I feel like the windshield is going to pop out.

It gets to a point where you just don't care anymore lol. I can't garage it all winter, I just can't. Hard to not drive these cars. As long as there's no snow, or torrential downpours, I drive!
