Sorry - I just found the official BMW USA specs for the 435i and M4. The M4 weighs slightly less than the 435i but is surprinsingly close. I guess Autoweek was WAAAY off:

M4 - 3585 lbs (automatic) -http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Content/Vehicles/2015/M/M4Coupe/Features_and_Specs/M4CoupeSpecifications.aspx

435i - 3610 lbs (automatic) - http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...fications.aspx

So it looks like the M4 is only 25 lbs lighter than the 435i! Very disappointing. And, to Zayken's point that incorrectly refuted, the M4 convertible will probably weight almost as much as the 435i convertible (unless they lightened up the roof, which is highly unlikely).

The 435i convertible weighs 4095 lbs!! - http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...fications.aspx

This is VERY disappointing, as my E93 M3 Convertible weighs about the same amount. I really hope the M4 Convertible doesn't weight 4,100 lbs. That would be a huge disappointment, given their focus on "weight savings"...

I am dissapointed as well. I am a big fan of open cars.

And be sure that most of bimmerpost members have not realized these figures so far.

I am a little pissed with BMW marketing department and their triumphs on the weight reductions . . .
If all their money went for the i project and the FWD models, oh man, i dont know.

Perhaps it would be wiser to wait untill the C class AMG coupe and cabrio(?) reveal.

Unfortunately I couldn't agree more. I have owned 4 M3 Convertibles in a row (3 E46 and 1 E93) and I will be very disappointed if the weight is the same as my porky E93 convertible. All I can say is that it better be below 4,000 lbs but it's just not looking that way - very disappointing.

C63 Convertible might be worth a look, although the transmissions on those cars have been subpar to-date. Next gen E Class Convertible (E63 Convertible) might hit the mark but I don't believe they are due out until 2016 or later...

Anyhow, I'll stop complaining for now until I see the stats on the F83 M3. I have no doubt the build quality, materials, and likely the engine will be fantastic, but it would be a serious lost opportunity if the car weighs the same as the E93 convertible or anywhere close to it...

Thanks for bringing the weight issue to my attention...

Bad looking car, I mean the roofline. I guess it's meant for south.

Yet, ANOTHER disappointment. I keep waiting for this thing to knock my socks off, but it doesn't. I too will have to wait and see it and drive it in person. But, honestly...I think my 335is looks better. And, it's probably lighter too. What a shame...

BMW had the chance to do so many cool things with this first ever 4 series.

This is why I was so disappointed when BMW did not give the F83 a CF folding roof...... Would have thought that using CF is a no brainer to save weight.....

I dont get, why you make such a fuss about it today.
The weights of the cars are available from UK or germany for weeks allready.
Anyone who can read, saw, that the weight dif. old/new model is minor.

so what?

yes - it is dissapointing - but it is not a new information.

Like I said before, that roof looks exactly the same as the E93 M3, thus looking disproportionate on top of a wider M4 body :
