Azurite black vs Tanzanite blue
Just ordered an M3 in Azurite black but having second thoughts about changing it to Tanzanite blue. Any opinions from owners? Seems like both colors shift so much depending on lighting conditions that it's hard to get a sense from pictures. Thanks!

I'd go with Tanzanite Blue with sakhir orange or white interior
Not only is it a very unique and rare color to see on the road, but also keeping the black clean is a big pain in the butt trust me. I've owned a few black cars, I'd like wash it, after a few minutes I could already see the dust particles on the car and you'd be able to see every scratch, swirl mark, etc.

Ha! No worries. I knew because I had seen that car before and loved it, also thought it was Tanzanite... sucks that SMB's price is so steep

Azurite Black is similar to Carbon Black. My thoughts are that if you want black, get black (BSM or another "true" black). If you want blue, get blue.
Tanzanite is a bit too dark of a blue for me, it's elegant but doesn't give as much of an aggressive look in my opinion. |

when I got my '14 435 I considered AB and TB. Was coming from Sparkling Graphite 335. Never saw either color, but I always liked how Carbon Black looked blue in bright light. Searched the internet and decided on AB. Cost $5k (TB would have too back then for 435). I liked the color, but I was always looking for the "blue" to come out. Sometimes it would look blue at night, which was kind of cool.
Here's the best pic I ever got of the "blue" coming out. Remember it's Azurite BLACK, so it's a black car. Just as an aside, here it is by a BSM M4. I like AB much better--more character. looking black One of my coworkers got a Carbon Black 540 and I honestly can't see any difference from AB. Won't go into details, but suddenly I found myself ordering a Tanz Blue M4. Am I ever glad I had the AB 435, because I LOVE the TB much more. It's BLUE!! Sometimes it looks very dark, maybe even black, but that's ok. It's not quite as shiny as SMB, but also only a little under $2k. pretty shiny here. in person, up close, it really is a complex color with lots of "metallic" flecks. better than any of the "regular" bright blues. so glad to have a blue car again. I had a Mystic Blue 330 ('04)

Both colours need to be clean with the sun shining to make them worth the individual premium. Dirty and overcast, then they are just black and dark blue respectively (this is from a Tanzanite Blue owner). I'd be more inclined to make my choice dependant on the interior colour. I went with TB and Opal white interior but I also strongly considered AB and Amaro as I had an E46 in Carbon Black with Cinnamon and I loved that combo.

I'm obviously biased towards Azurite...the color has more shades to it than some would believe. I seen Tanzanite in person and while it's a very clean/classy look...it didn't look aggressive enough to me. Agree though that like with any car, attention to cleaning/detailing is a must to eliminate swirl marks or they will show up very easily (my car is also ceramic coated so this helps with ease of washing). Dust does accumulate easily but I'm sure this would also be a problem with tanzanite or any dark car.
Here are a couple of pics, one at dusk and then at night under street lights. Even in cloudy days the car never looks like an "ordinary" black car, it may not show off all the blue hues/tints but it definitely looks different than just black (inky has been used a lot and it's a good way to describe it).
