I've been more or less saying the same thing. I haven't experienced any perceptible boost lag at all (...and this isn't my first turbocharged car; in other cars it was noticeable). Being in the right gear for the circumstances makes all the difference.

The only real lag I have experienced driving this car is when you bounce between gears. say you are on the highway at 50 mph in 6th gear, then you drop 3 gears to 3rd anticipating a pass. The is no room so you upshift 2 gears to 5th. If i then drop it back down to 3rd, the car is momentarily laggy, even in 3rd. and wot takes an extra second to kick in.

Drive at a constant speed in Sport+ with the engine at 6000RPM, then floor the throttle, you will feel a delay before the full power kicks in. That is turbo lag. It is there, there is no denying it.

The lag we mean is, when you floor it, the power doesn't come on instantly. I've driven both Turbo and naturally aspirated engine cars, the feeling is different. Take any NA car and the moment you floor it, you get pulled back in your seat but with the M4, despite it having a lot of power, it's not instant.

this isn't any biased opinion since we all own this car. Just how Turbos work

That's not exactly true. Floor an automatic NA car, and it first has to drop to an optimal gear (...even though that happens fairly quickly), and then you get the rush. I've never floored my M4 at speed and not had it respond the way I wanted.

This is irrelevant. Lag is about reaction to throttle input and is not related to the delay of downshifting an automatic transmission.

Turbo lag does exist. It may be very minimal compared to some turbo cars but believe me, when I floor the x5(v8tt) or M3 the vehicle starts moving and then the freight train takes over.

My point was that I think sometimes people confuse transmission lag with boost lag.

While it is there, it is very brief.

I wonder if the lag is more perceptible because the s55 is so explosive at wot.

the s63 on the x5m @ highway speed, downshifting 3 gears and wot does not have the same punch in your gut bang. even considering awd.

I completely agree, bmw should have included some tutorials on how to drive the DCT. It is more complicated to drive than a conventional auto, and people have no patience to figure things out on their own.
