ED, accessories

Hello,

I've read around that the ED cars won't have accessories installed at pick up other than factory installed items. So what happens if I ordered the car with the floor mats? Is that considered a dealer installed option? Will the car not have floor mats when I pick up the car in Munich? If not, does BMW give you some temporary paper or plastic covering the carpet footwell? Just wondering how that's handled during pick up.

Thanks

Floor mats are standard equipment and are already installed in the car when you do your ED. If you're ordering rubber/winter mats, they're a dealer installed accessory and will installed prior to re-delivery stateside.

Thank you for the reply. I had no idea that floor mats are standard these days. What kind of mats come standard?

They are standard for ED cars. This was the case all the way back to when I got my first ED car in 2003. It's possible that they are required in Europe/Germany. You will also get the warning triangle and 1st aid kit.

Back then, it wasn't the same floor mats you can buy at the dealership, but they were matching floor mats nonetheless. I also got floor mats in 2011, but I don't recall if they were the same as the ones from the parts dept.

Yes, the triangle and now safety vests are required. Atomic, make sure you remove both those things before you drop off the car. If you leave them in the car, you'll lose them. And bring along a small Philips head screw driver to remove the warning triangle's brackets. You can reinstall all that stuff when the car is re-delivered.

Excited now??

Philips head screw driver is located in the included tool kit. No need to bring one.

"But mine is just a flat blade, not a Philips!"

(Some people don't know that the screwdriver shaft is reversible from flat head to Philips...)

I have a 'vert so mine's the opposite: it's a Philips that reverses to a flat head.

I'll have to check my Z4 M Roadster to see if it's the same.

If you ordered CP, it will be the sport exhaust with black tips.

I didn't remove the triangle bracket last ED (Sept 17) and was intact in the trunk of my F83 upon US delivery.

That's interesting and good to know. I thought the brackets were always removed. Did you leave the triangle as well? If so, was it also still in the trunk on US delivery?

Maybe for the F83 trunk the brackets aren't noticeable? I removed and took home the triangle, 1st aid kit and original catalytic converters, as I had the car stage II ecu/dp's tuned directly after Welt delivery.

Hello everybody,

Sorry for the late reply and thank you for all of your responses.

I just wanted to give you a short update.

I got an email from my dealer telling me they got me my allocation....finally!!!

Just a little background, I was in talks with my dealer last February and decided I was going to get a M3 and do European Delivery. My dealer assured me that they could get me a car so I went ahead a booked my entire trip to Germany. Of course I knew it was a huge gamble but I thought, "What the hell" and went ahead hoping everything would work out. As time went on and I followed this site I saw lots of threads about M3 allocation drying up all over the US and that started to get me worried. After awhile I prepared myself for the worse and I thought I wouldn't get a car but I knew the risk beforehand and was still satisfied with a vacation to Germany and I was still going to visit the Welt Center and enjoy the tour. Low and behold I got an email this week from my dealer letting me know they got me my allocation and also sent me my Vehicle Inquiry Report so I can confirm the configuration.

hinckley, thanks for the reply and YES I AM SOOOO EXCITED AND STOKED!!!

To everyone, thank you for the replies and advice. I just wanted to make sure that I should remove the triangle, triangle bracket and the first aid kit? Is that all?

Could someone post a picture of how they look like and where they are located in the car please?

Thanks again everyone for all your help!!!!

Now I just need to sit tight until September!!! That's when I go and pick up my car in Munich!!!!

Congrats! Exciting. Do you have a route planned?

I don't have a picture, but the triangle and bracket are attached to the inside of the trunk lid. The first aid kit will either be in one of the trunk's side pockets or in the compartment under the trunk floor (just lift the lid). When you pick up your car at the Welt, you'll get a voucher for a couple of safety vests from the store. They need to be in the car when you're driving in Europe, but they're a good thing to bring home with you as well.

You might as well grab the USB stick that has the Euro maps for navigation. Useless in the US, pretty small storage capacity, but think of it as a memento.

The triangle is in a long, red, rectangular plastic case. Both the triangle and the bracket will be very obvious when you open the trunk. Use the screwdriver from the tool kit underneath the flat cover on the right side of the trunk. The screwdriver shaft is removable and reversible between slotted and Phillips.

The first aid kit is in a black nylon zippered pouch in the trunk and will also be pretty obvious. It also says "KFZ-Verbandtasche" (German), "First-Aid Kit" (English), and "Boite de Secours" (French) on it.

If you really need to see a picture after those descriptions, just Google "BMW warning triangle" and BMW first aid kit".

Hello,

I have two more questions. I am assuming I can keep the owners manual and all other manuals in the car right? Also how about the temporary Euro license plates? After I drop off the car can I go ahead and take them off and keep them as souvenirs as well? About that, I noticed that it said that you don't need to drive your car and drop off while you are on your trip but if you do leave it at the Welt Center that they would charge you 75 euros. Why do they charge if you are not going to use the car? They could potentially save on gas since they wouldn't have to fill up the tank. And related to that, what happens if you drop it off with a partial full tank of gas? Do they drain the fuel? I remember the last time I shipped a car via ship that they required the car be almost empty and if it wasn't they wouldn't accept the car for shipment. And can I drive in Germany with my valid USA drivers license or do I have to get an international drivers license?

Thanks again everyone!!
