New M4 purchase

About to place my order for a 2019 M4. Looking to spend less than $75,000.

Currently looking at manual transmission, 437M wheels, cloth interior, and the exec package.

I'm looking for opinions on this configuration before I pull the trigger..

Thanks!

I haven't heard good things about the cloth interior but I've never seen it in person. I really like the competition package and if I had to choose between that and the executive package I would pick the CP. Based on what I've seen lately you should be able to get both for under 75K if you negotiate the price. good luck!

Definitely get the cloth. I wasn't totally sold on it until I sat in one at SF bmw on one of those random late fall stupid hot days. No back sweat from leather heated to the surface temperature of the sun is a substantial win in my book.

I originally contemplated it for a while, but ended up concluding that the competition package is a no brainer. With how much you're already shelling out for the car this would be an option that you wouldn't want to regret later down the road. You can still get the 437M wheels as well.

Don't forget to add 11% tax and registration. Also insurance on those cars is expensive

11% tax in Cali?!! SC sales tax is capped at $500 max. We pay annual property taxes, but deductible from your federal return if still itemizing after the standard deduction being raised to $24,000 (married) with the 2018 Tax Reform Bill.

Or get the convertible which has sun reflective technology

I do agree that the cloth is nice as I have seen it person in the past- never interested as full leather is the way to go.

I would go with executive package over competition package because you get the full LED adaptive headlights.

ZCP- always have the surprise 'bonus' of full iconic LED's. Personally, if you go M, it needs to fully optioned out. For disclosure, it didn't order the CCB for my M4 vert or night vission/rear entertainment for the X5M- so I can't be called out.

Based on my budget I definitely want the exec package as I love the new LED headlights. The Comp package I'm sure is great but my budget is my budget and I can't afford both.

I'm ordering on Monday.. and right now my build is MT, mineral gray (non negotiable), cloth interior, 437M wheels + exec package. I've never seen the 18s so if they aren't so bad, I could ditch the 437s for the extended leather.. That is where I am at.

Thanks!

Competition package makes the M3/M4. I'm sure you have looked over the previous threads asking if ZCP is worth it and yes it is.

The bonus full LED's happened to folks who ordered M3's without ZEC at one point. I never heard of it happening to the M4.

I don't agree with this statement. I was really happy with my M4 for three years (got it 2015).

Competition is nice, but I don't think it's essential. If you come from the years when competition wasn't available, then yes, you probably definitely want it (as did I when I ordered my new car). But in my case this came more from the Desire to renovate than the need to have Competition.

For example, if I had to pick between extended to full leather upgrade instead of competition, I would pick the leather. After a few years I found my interior to be really basic without that extra leather.

Order what you want OP. You'll be happy regardless! I don't think the ZCP is as transformative as some members would have you believe, and you certainly need to be mindful of the expense. Having Driven both back to back my comment was "meh". Could take it or leave it. It wasn't available when I ordered because I'm impatient and I'm not really sold on the need for it now either since I'm not doing track days or trying to clip every apex on my way to/from the grocery store. That being said it would be hard for me not to check the box, although I'm sure the Mrs would convince me not to. She's the responsible one in the family anyway.

I agree. I think it also depends on what car you're coming from. For people who already had an M, the ZCP "extras" likely would be more noticeable. For me - and sounds like OP as well - I'm not going to track it and it's going to be my daily driver. I did have a 650 a couple years ago, but I've been driving an older A4 for the last 2 years so this is going to be a massive upgrade for me comp pkg or no comp pkg.

So what are the main pieces it gets you for $4,500?

- Extra hp- can't believe there will be a noticeable difference for typical driving
- Enhanced exhaust - some really good YouTube clips comparing them side by side. Difference? Yes. And I do like the slightly deeper notes - this is a part that had me very tempted. But even compared to my 650 the standard is great.
- 20" 666 wheels. I still like the 437s better than the satans and would have chosen them anyway - but of course there's no price break for doing that and you're paying for the 20s.
- Black kidneys (which I like and will do separately) and M badge, side bars and exhaust tips. With my tanzanite color I actually like the silver badge and side bars better
- sport seats - like the look, but think as my daily driver I'd prefer the somewhat more comfortable and adjustable "regular" seats
- there are some steering ratio / suspension differences as well I believe.

I totally get anyone who feels ZCP is a no-brainer. In spite of everything I listed above I changed my mind 2 or 3 times about ordering it or not. But I think there are also some good reasons not to check the box even aside from saving the money. And I absolutely would take the exec pkg over the comp pkg if there really is a budget constraint.

Good luck with your order! I'm sure you'll be thrilled no mater what you choose.

Thumbs up

Thanks for all of your responses.. Keep them coming

I appreciate the advise on the comp pack, but it's simply out of my budget with the other options I want.

On Monday (latest Tuesday), I (as of now) will be ordering a MG M4 with a 6MT, extended leather, 437M 19" wheels, and exec package. I will also be ordering my car with a moonroof (I know it's a sin to delete the carbon fiber roof, but I use my moonroof every day and I love it). MSRP just shy of $75,000 which is my absolute budget. I drive approx 75,000 miles per year and can't wait to spend my 2018-2019 year driving a car that I absolutely love. I adore my 435i, but for only $150 more/month it makes a lot of sense to own a M4 vs a new 440i with the MPPSK.

Thanks again, everyone!!!

75,000 miles a year?!?!? Jesus. Did you think about the extended warranty? May need it. That's another cost.

With all due respect, if you can't get the comp package because of your budget limitations, you really need to ask yourself if a 75k car is for you and if you can easily afford it.
I would have never bought my M4 10-12 years ago. I could have done so, but I would be living paycheck by paycheck. Today I can say I chose the "right" time to buy it, if you know what I mean.
That's my honest opinion.
Good luck!

You don't really know his situation. Maybe he puts 10k a month in a mutual fund and leaves his budget to 1k for a car, on top of his expenses etc. Unless we are certain he would be living paycheck to paycheck, we don't know his overall reasons for budgeting. I don't get why we assume that spending an extra $5k on a depreciating asset is somehow better than staying to a budget that is financially sound for that person.

I'm not assuming anything. I just gave my honest opinion. You and I both know that there are MANY people in that position, where they really can't afford to drive a car that expensive but they still do.
It was just a comment based the perspective I saw his post from.
