Yep - this happens to me *all* the time. (I have a CF diffuser). Sometimes when I'm just walking past the back of the car in a parking lot the trunk will pop open. And then it takes about 5 or 6 attempts to get it to close.

Hugely embarrassing!

I think I'm going to code out the feature since it's almost zero use to me. I can never make it work when I actually want it, and feel like an idiot swinging one leg around at the back of the car.

Having said all that - I've also had the trunk pop when in traffic due to having the keyfob in the coin pocket of my jeans and the lap portion of the seatbelt pressed the button.

... oh, and the seatbelt pressing the 'horn and flash the lights' keyfob button continuously while doing an autocross course at a track day. That is somewhat worse!

Ain't that a bitch? If they are going to put in a feature, they should at least make it work. I have never been able to open the trunk with my foot on the first try.

This hasn't happened on my F80 but I just picked up a G01 X3 yesterday and it happened like 4 times while doing the predelivery walk around. Dealer said it happens a lot on their lot due them being next to a big radio tower. Hasn't happened at home so fingers crossed...

Radio tower? That is BS. The remote transmitted coded serial signals to the car, which opens the trunk after decoding. That is why your remote won't open another car.

The remote has a much longer range than I was expecting. With my car parked on the street I could go inside my house to room furthest from the street and the button would still open the trunk. While the range is nice for opening windows while aproaching the car I wish the trunk feature required a closer proximity.

This is a major issue folks!! The last thing I need is for my trunk to pop open when I am doing one of my weekly 50LB cannibus runs, and I am not next to my car when it opens up!!

Is it the diffuser that's doing this? I have the CF diffuser. The foot swing doesn't work with it. And I also sometimes have trouble getting the trunk to stay closed. It's fine 97% of the time, but every so often it just keeps popping back open for no apparent reason and its maddening! So does coding out the foot thing work for this?

I posted some technical infor on this topic in the previous thread on trunk randomly opening

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...9&postcount=27

I know there's an FDL code to change the delay on the trunk kick opening. Not sure if it can be used to disable the feature completely....

PUMA is their name for a database of issues that various dealers around the world have resolved. Not sure what the part will be, except that it's electronic (surprise, surprise). I'm very curious how this will play out.

BTW, I am aware of the coding workaround. I am assuming I can do this myself with my copy of BimmerCode, but I don't really like that so-called solution.
With a name like Lucas Electrics, you must be familiar with malfunctions!

I think I still have a "Lucas, prince of darkness" t-shirt from the days when I owned Norton and Triumph motorcycles, and Triumph cars.

I was at a winery when a guy (who just happened to be one of my former felony clients) came in to find the owner of the BMW outside with the trunk open. Fortunately, the firearms were in a locked case that is secured by a cable that's bolted onto the battery hold-down bracket!

Yep, I spent many teenage hours popping the hood (bonnet) of our Austin A55, removing the distributor cap, and drying off the rotor with a rag. Ah, the good old days!

I saw a guy with a hilarious t-shirt at a motorcycle trackday:

Magneto Marelli is Italian for Lucas

Of course, he was riding a Ducati. He said about one person in a hundred gets it.

So, last week while I was in a bar my trunk apparently popped open and I had $2200 worth of stuff stolen from my trunk. My insurance deductible is $2k so no getting the money back there. I guess I'm going to have to do something about this now. It then popped open again last night while I was at the gun range. My dad got there after me and came in and said, "since your trunk was already open I went ahead and put the stuff I brought you in it."

I might think it was me inadvertently pressing the key, but I'm on my 5th BMW now and never had a problem with the same style fobs in any of my previous ones. I have the CF diffuser so the kick thing doesn't work.

If the dealer programing makes it so to open the trunk with my fob I have to go to the door, pressed the comfort access and then press the fob that's a PITA. Because usually when I want to open it with the fob I'm walking out to my car from a store and want it open when I get there so I can put stuff in the trunk. And if the reprogramming it deletes all the coding I paid for on my car it's also going to be a pain.

Fyi this behavior has stopped after changing from the OEM cf diffuser to a vorsteiner.

It's absolutely the diffuser interfering with the antenna beneath the rear bumper

This is an interesting thread. I've got a F80 2017 and haven't run into an accidental opening.....yet. Of course now that I've typed this I've tempted the Gods.

It's happened to me a few times but I'm now suspecting it's because of the fob pushing against something else in my pocket.
