I recently purchased my new M3. I had no idea the carbon fiber driveshafts were going to be replaced with steel.
I just jacked up my car and inspected the driveshaft. Very thankful to find it is indeed Carbon Fiber. Build date 11/03/17 |

Hah, yeah, should have taken a pic while I was under the car. Wasn’t so easy to get a view of the driveshaft without a lift. There was a small “window” where I could see it near the rear diff. Definitely not going under there again just to get a pic. I can assure you though - it is definitely Carbon Fiber on my car. |

Confirmed as well with BMW Genius today. Mine is CF. They informed me that steel will begin in the US starting in 2018.

This is interesting because I had it confirmed from Germany that it would be steel from Nov 1. I think we were potentially getting a bunch of UK slated cars because they were expecting a downturn and those cars were the ones with PPFs. Either that didn’t happen or they wisely decided to supply current sales with CF shaft.

How does a genius confirm that you'll be getting a CF driveshaft? I kind of find that hard to believe.

My production ended up being delayed so I'll check once I get my car too so we can test out this news of extended production of Cf shafts. My prod date is Nov. 15th, so well past the original November cutoff. However I'm in the Canadian market so I'm not sure how this affects things

Welp When My car arrives I'll have to ask the tech during my PPI If I can see the Drive shaft. My car is slated for week 4. I'll make sure I post some pictures if I can. here's hoping for a CF driveshaft :P

I'm a BMW SA and we PDI'ed my new F80 today with a production date of 11/2017 and put it in the air and saw a glimpse of the CF driveshaft. I didn't see an exact production date just 11/17

BMWNA started wrapping the Steel driveshaft with CF 3M wrap for this exact purpose.

My F80 is super fast, steel or carbon, doesn't make a difference to me. Buuuttt it would be cool if it was carbon lol

When I picked up my car last week, my sales manager confirmed that they received a bulletin here in Canada that the CF shaft will last until early 2018 production months. Seems like the had more CF shaft to use up
