My Amazing M3 Purchase in Oahu
First let me state; I'm glad to finally be a part of this awesome community! Since marrying my awesome wife I have always wanted an M3 since I was about 16. I'm 34 now and we are pretty frugal, rarely making any big ticket purchases. We are in a pretty good place financially and had decided to switch out one of our cars (my daily driver) and I told my wife I would love to take a look at a BMW 335 preowned.
Arriving at the dealership they had a couple 335's pulled out for me and after taking them on a couple test drives the wife was not impressed. She told me I was settling and did not seem to happy about it. I asked the sales rep Jacob Dust (This guy is the best sales rep ever btw and will get his own separate post) here in Honolulu, HI. to show us an M3. I knew once my wife realized the price of the vehicle she would think twice and be satisfied with me getting the 335. The setting could not have been more perfect! An M3 was parked all alone in a show room and my son (10 years old) said "Wow, this car makes me feel some type of way!". My wife immediately says, "Now this is nice, this I can see you in!". I grabbed the window sticker and said, "Yeah, see the price?" and my wife replied with "So?". I thought to myself is this actually happening right now? Are we about to own a car I've dreamt about for years? We took it out on the road and everyone immediately got the feeling of being on a roller coaster when I floored it! My daughter who is six looked pretty scarred and excited at the same time! I had a smile from ear to ear and while I have owned a couple quick cars in the past, nothing compared to this. Getting back to the dealer reality started to kick in that while it's a perfect car for me; being able to drop the kids off at school, it's the perfect balance of fun and speed, however it was a good amount of money. I thought to myself surely the last 20 minutes of drooling over this thing has caused my wife to change her mind. I could not have been more wrong... Walking inside the dealership my wife turns to Jacob and says "Look, I like the car, he wants the car, he deserves the car; I'm getting it for him so lets start doing the paperwork" and on that he walks away to do the paperwork and so does my wife to take my daughter to use the restroom. Let me tell you, it was in that moment that I had my first panic attack. Now during the drive I asked Jacob about the comp package, everything about this car was perfect except that is was missing that one item. Everything else was so perfect that I was willing to settle. When Jacob returned he tells me that a car just like the one we drove had just arrived and had not been prepped for the showroom yet. This car had one major difference though; it had the competition package that I wanted! This all took place back in November of 2017 and these photos were just taken yesterday. On that I present to you the sweetest ride we have ever owned! ZCP, Executive package, DCT, car play. Glad to be a member of this awesome group! Last edited by PAY M3; 06-16-2018 at 10:22 PM.. |

Congrats. There is nothing better than having a loving, supportive and enthusiastic wife who puts you above all else.
The break in is the longest 1200 miles ever. |

Short version, yes! I have been having so much fun driving this beast that I just now took the time to do the write up. What an amazing machine, I just can't get over how planted everything feels. I used to own a heavily modded 03 Mustang with a Terminator engine/Novi 2000 supercharger pushing 17 PSI and the M3 blows it away in all categories.

What an unbelievable disappointment it would have been to come home with a 335.

All about the math though, 80k can earn a ton of interest, so can 30k however I'm all about numbers and wanted my payment to be less than a certain percentage of our expendable income every month so that we don't affect savings each month. I guess in the end it's whatever you are comfortable with, could I handle a 0 down payment? Sure, but I'd be bothered and have trouble sleeping at night if I was paying that much every month. Theres a magic number on what's acceptable as a payment for me with auto's. Same either way though. Last edited by PAY M3; 06-18-2018 at 01:49 AM.. |
