As you say, it might be throttle response or it might be the thrill of exploiting the engine through the rev range. It's obviously not the same as the S65 in it's power delivery, because one major difference is it's fat mid range torque. But since the S55 delivers more hp and torque than the S65, even after 5500rpm, it might also be that he suggests that it feels thrilling all the way to the redline Which is basically what I asked him about, but he hasn't replied to the latest questions yet... And after my mishap with the "a few" affair, I looked up the definition of essence http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/essence Quote:

Solstice, who made the throttle response "assumption" isn't one of those that is a fanboy for the S55, quite the contrary. He just hoped that at least the throttle response was ok. And his assumptions wasn't based off of the video They where based on the comments about the S55 engine from the guy driving that M4... Someone who claims he had the M4 for a couple of days... |

That particular example looked REALLY GOOD and sounded decent as well.

It's short and at low revs, but it's still exhaust sound... No one has said "wow it sounds great at redline in that video"... Or, should we all just go: I can't really say anything about the sound I heard in that clip since it is just a short video and only at a limited rev range... |

Ok, misunderstood you then. But in all fairness the throttle response comment had nothing to do with the video clip you referred it to...

Active Sound in the M5 is incredibly subtle, you really don't notice it and it doesn't get in the way of listening to music even at very low volume. I HATED the fact that BMW had decided to include this technology when we first heard about it but now that I've spent a lot of time in M5s and M6s, it doesn't bother me much. At the end of the day, I think they sound pretty nice inside and out so I guess the ends justified the means.
