OMG, This Is A Big Car!
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Also, this was the first time I had an extended drive, a lot of Friday rush hour traffic, and my first impression of the DCT is that it is really faultless. It works smoothly, behaves like a manual even in auto mode, picks the right gears, and worked synergistically with my right foot. If I were to nit pick I'd say the paddles are too far retracted inwards in comparison to the steering wheel, although I have to admit I have smallish hands. I also loved the throttle response and the overall reaction of the chassis when I had some open road. In short, my first drive with the M4 was as good as I was hoping it would be. First time I am also part of the M club and happy to be, I see the light, I see the light! Last edited by FTS; 12-20-2014 at 12:38 AM.. |

Congratulations on your new purchase. I am excited about my order to arrive in the early spring. I agree with you that it is a big car for the 3 series, but I am happy about this. The E39 M5 was, in my mind, the perfect size for a good daily driven vehicle. The dimensions of the new F80 M3 are very close to the E39 M5. I've been waiting for this car to come out. I wouldn't give up my M5 for the E90 M3 because it felt smaller on the inside and the lack of torque.
At any rate - congratulations on your new purchase and thanks for sharing your thoughts! Chris. |

Welcome to the family. I agree that the vehicle is wider and longer than previous M3 versions. However, the engineers at BMW have succeeded in limiting the weight gain with the F8x with CF, etc. By all accounts, it appears that the M2 will have a footprint that mirrors the M3s of years past.

Haha, driven down there many times.
Have fun with it, if you can stay away from the NOVA / DC / PG county crazy drivers and super police officers. Oh, and it's not really that big of a car.... |

Frankly compared to the Porsches I had previously, this one sits like a boat in the garage, barely any room left for tools, moving around, etc. I'll get used to it quickly though. And thank you |

I hate to break it to you, but you're driving a Mercedes.

Exactly the comparison I keep making. It was just the perfect car at the perfect time for me. I keep saying it's in the Goldie Locks zone on every parameter, not too much or too little of anything: size, weight, styling, power, etc. Everything is just right, and it came around just as I was ready to buy myself a 4 door sedan that had it all.

I traded in a 2014 Cayman S for my M4. I was worried that the M4 would feel like driving a tank, but it really doesn't "feel" any bigger than the Porsche. I am very pleasantly surprised.

My son and wife also liked the car a lot, which is comforting. My son was so a timid driving it that I don't think he has enjoyed it yet. We'll fix that tomorrow. Quote:

Yes of course, the M4 is not as long, but let's say it has more presence. The hood line is significantly higher, as is the roof. I don't know if the attached pics would be able to show what I am seeing.
