From my understanding the full lap is slightly longer than the SportAuto lap (timed during industry sessions), which adds about 5-7 secs, as it allows full speed past one of the sets of stands (again used for entry/exit during industry sessions).
I remember reading this whole expose on Nurburgring times and how like at least 4 different distances are recorded and how factory drivers actually have 'ringers' - one example was the Cadillac CTS-V, which had a roll cage, suspension stiffened, and higher boost to deal with the higher elevations of the Nurburgring, with the goal being to beat the M3 (which it did by a few secs, but M3 was tested by Sport Auto). With all their Supertests, SportAuto takes a 100% stock car right from the showroom floor. There are several videos of E9x M3s hitting in the low 7:50s BTG and lightly tuned ones (weight removal, suspension, brakes, tires) getting into the higher 7:30s and 7:40s. Once again, its about comparing things apples to apples. We'll never know what BMW's actual Nurburgring times are with factory drivers. What we do know is that the E92 CRT and GTS do 7:48-7:50 (SportAuto), with similar weight/power ratios as the new M3/4, but both those vehicles have more hardcore suspension setups, so would expect an M3/M4 SportAuto time in low-mid 7:50s. Also the M3 tested in 2007 was a MT. We've never had a SportAuto test of an 2013 M3 with ZCP, DCT, PSSs and latest software (which was improved upon over the years). Dun understand all the hate from some M5 owners. I have the M5 and love the new M3/M4 to bits. I saw it at a private preview and really love what I saw and plan to get a M4 next year to go along with my M5! M5 is faster in the straights and M3 faster on tracks. Every generation has been the case, so I wonder why people even bother to argue. They focus on different things. No need to get all competitive.

Yep I agree anytime performance numbers are posted it is always a competition for M3/M4 and M5/M6 truth is I don't care I have a M5 CP and I will drive a M3 and M4 as it intrigues me if I like it better like better I will buy one either to replace or compliment my M5. This happens from both "camps" as soon as any M3/4 numbers are posted they start getting compared to the M5/6 as justification to spending less money for equal or better performance. If that's the case buy a caterham

To be fair, Chris Harris beat the E92 time by 4.5 seconds on a 2.9 mile track. He posted on twitter today. Maybe the E92 driver had a hangnail that day, or had to brake for a family of ducks crossing the road. But this F8X will beat the old M3 on runflats.

Comparing F8x M3/M4 to F10 M5 is like apples and oranges. These cars appeals to different demographic and tax bracket.

Not sure why you are surprised by this? The M5 has 7.55% more horsepower per pound,23.65% more torque and only is 5.13% faster to 60.

Actually I've never seen a publication post a lap time of the E92 on that track..actually there are very few publication tests on the track of any car. Will be interesting to see, a true apples-to-apples comparison, which I must admit I haven't been seeing much of between the weight, nurburgring, and M5/M6 vs M3/4 threads.

Boss & RIPM5 you guys are over this stuff like a rash. You've great cars guys, people claiming good times in the new M3/4 is not an attack on you or your cars. How petty do you need to be to change your sig to put down the excellent new cars, very low class man.

I have never seen a reference of Sport Cups when they were talking/writing about this 8:05 lap done by Sport Auto (Horst von Saurma). |
