Most of the added weight comes from the need to strenghten the chassis to stop the car from flexing and twisting with the roof down + the extra gadgets in the trunk for the roof mechanism. So most of the weight gain is below the waist line of the car. To the OP, I wouldn't decide whether or not to buy a convertible based on the looks with the top up. The cab offers something completely different to the coupe so a small change in design with the top up compared to the coupe should not be a deciding factor imo. |
