I got the MPE installed yesterday and I just ordered this too.

I ordered mine default as open and Auto when turned on. That way most of the time I don't have to think about it. Early in the morning I can activate it before starting the car to go in Auto mode with the closed valves. And if I ever want to have OEM behavior I still have it.

Like others have said, I don't get the always closed option.

Glad to see everyone is liking this device as much as myself.

I agree, that would mean (for me) I would have to open it way more times a day than just closing it once when I leave the house - that's the ONLY time I close it... in public, zero fucks given, open all the time.

*but of course that's a personal desire*

This is an awesome mod, I don't know why BMW toned down the exhaust so much with the flaps but in full open mode this car sounds awesome. I love trying out new exhausts and at some point I probably will but I can honestly say the way this car sounds with the valves fully open is awesome. I will be installing Zima downpipes soon and was told the tone remains but gets louder, at that point this would be an awesome sounding exhaust. I went with fully open for default so every time I turn on the car they are already open and then the activated mode is OEM for when I have people in the car that don't want the additional sound. This is a highly recommended product.

I used to have the E90 M3 with the Akrapovic Evo, MS X-Pipe with Megan, Challenge, and Corsa at different times and I can say while that V8 with all those various exhaust setups sounded awesome the F80 really does equally good in my opinion, just in a different character, I think the valves really hinder that and thus the negative reviews.

Anyone contemplating a different exhaust setup should def try this out first.

Damn! Mine was working flawlessly for about a week but now when I hit the remote or homelink buttons nothing happens. The valves are working fine when I plug back the OEM plug so I know it's not the valve motors. Anyone experience this on theirs?

I find it astounding that BMW would reduce the real sound only to add fake sound. Hilarious, even.

I realize that BMW thinks that they can "shape" the sound in all situations to make for a "better client experience."

But they can't.

Kill the active sound.

Control your own exhaust flaps.

Control your own DESTINY!!!!

Haha. Ok. Cool.

LOL I was just thinking this today after doing the valve mod and driving around while listening to the real sound of the exhaust (EAS coded my active sound out a while back). Pretty ridiculous and unnecessary of BMW to do what they did with active sound on this car.

I have. Easy as pie. Hold the remote close to the mirror and hold one button on each and you're done.

Quick question about OPEN (default)/OEM control (activated) before I order...

If I start the engine (cold start) and then press the button to activate the OEM control, will the valves close? Or does the OEM control have to be activated before I start the engine?

Mine grabbed the code real quick, I'd say within 5 seconds.

Not sure I understand the question completely, but yes if you start the car with the valve open and click to close the valves, the valves will close. This goes for both open/close.

Remember, this device opens and closes the valve once the car is on - car doesn't have to be started. So for me, in the mornings, I push my start button once, close my valve via HomeLink, then start the car.

What I mean is if you have the activated setting on the VSC2 programmed to "factory control" (not OPEN), will the valves still close if the engine is already started in an open position and you activate "factory control". Or do you have to start driving to make them close.

At any point when the car is started or on, you can change to the factory setting. So, depending on driving mode and engine parameters, the valves will open/close per the factory programming. Hope this helps!

It closes immediately if you're in efficient throttle, probably sport too. I have this same setting (Valve open default, OEM turned on) and use it to quiet cold starts most mornings.
