Close to service - spending 3 weeks out of the country

Hi,

I'm about to spend 3 weeks out of the country in January, and I'm within 1200 miles of my next service (10K).

Is there any valid reason to send it in now or just wait until I get back? Other than old contaminated oil sitting in the engine for 3 weeks as opposed to new oil sitting in there, I can't see any other benefit to taking it in now?

Dino

If you are close to the mileage take it in, you don't have to be exactly 1200. I took mine in at 900 because I hit the time.

If you are going out of country and you will pass the time to take in and not mileage, take it in first.

It won't pass the time (I've only had it since 1 June so no where near the 1 year service) and there's 1200 miles to go. 1200 miles could be 2 months for me, so it's either now, or more around the end of March/April.

I was more concerned that there might be valid reason to take it in before leaving it for 3 weeks stationary.

Then you won't have to do so.

If you haven't hit the mileage or hit the time then you don't need to take the car in early. It is only if you hit either or close to one of them, and you are going to be gone then I would take the car in just to be safe. Since you aren't then it shouldn't be a problem.

Really no reason to rush to take it in. Car sitting with clean or dirty oil makes no difference. I have been told by BMW to come back because i wasnt close enough to the mileage. If BMW turns you away, dont stress since like i said nothing is going to happen with a car sitting for 3 weeks.
