Dash Cam Thoughts

Do people have/use a dash cam on their M? Was looking into getting one just wanted to know everyone's thoughts. Thanks

No, don't see any point to it.

If I lived in Mexico, or South Africa, or Russia, maybe...

I do see a need and I live in MD. People here are shit drivers and hit and run all the time, especially in parking garages. The dashcam is evidence for when an incident is in dispute. If I have to sue someone, I'll have it all on film. Plus I can save all my street/track kills in clips I have a BlackVue DR650S 2-channel with a 128GB micro card. That can hold about a months worth of HD video.

Ditto - have actually had three occasions in last 1.5 years where I have replayed/shared video in issues with people messing with the car - use the latest DR650S Blackvue hard wired to the fuse box, pretty slick (seamless and well hidden) and can easily review any vid on iPhone in car if needed and of course download to computer etc. Have the PowerMagic Pro to avoid any issues with battery when parked.

Thanks that camera looks good. It has the parking recording to which I want. Would you mind sharing pics of ur install? More specifically where you placed them for optimal viewing and keeping it out of view so it doesn't look bad.

Don't have any pics right now but its mounted passenger side just right of the rear view mirror. It's far enough up the windshield that I can fold down the passenger sun visor and it can't be seen from the passenger seat. I tucked all the wires in the A pillar going down to power and it's tucked going back to the rear camera. Looks really clean, I don't see any wires.

Do you want to hardwire it?

You ever installed an amp/subs in a car? If yes, should be no problem.
No - still no prob but may take a bit

Bring this up during the next meet and either James or I can offer some advice

I have one, cheap insurance.

My MIL got into a small fender bender yesterday, insurance called today saying the other party is suing. Guy was laughing when I showed up.

Check out the Viofo A119S.. its compact, around $100 and the video quality is great. I have one in my M4 and one in my Tacoma. Easy to install/hardwire as well.

I'm getting the Thinkware F770 2 channel with battery backup package from blackboxmycar - check out the vid comparisons on YouTube. Not cheap, though. If you only want a front camera there seem to be lots of quality options relatively cheap.

I actually just a day ago asked BlackBoxMyCar regarding BlackVue DR650S and Cellink B, Power Magic Pro and Multi-Safer and they fully recommend a backup battery pack (aka Cellink B) because when it comes to the F80/F82 apparently Multi-Safer and Power Magic Pro still allows the camera to drain your car's battery. BlackVue DR650S is recording all the time, despite "turning it off". It just cuts off at a certain point to avoid the camera killing your car battery.

However because PMP and Multi-Safer cuts at a certain point, you will have to replace your car's battery earlier because of it and F80/F82 car battery apparently costs a lot more.

They also warned me other people with PMP and Multi-Safer has reported Comfort Access issues because the F80/F82, in attempts to save the car battery, starts cutting features (aka Comfort Access).

So... those thinking about BlackVue DR650S, should lean into Cellink B. Unless you have a lease then you shouldn't worry :P

Our cars have a lithium ion (lithium phosphate?) battery because they are smaller/lighter. That's cool but downside is they are super expensive

If you want to use parking mode get a Cellink B backup system!

Absolutely. I've caught enough dumb shit from other drivers I can create a "Stupid Drivers of Canada" video compilation on YouTube.

All of this is true. The F8X doesn't like getting it's battery drained. Every morning my Comfort Access doesn't work because the car shut off all unnecessary things to save juice. Initially, I didn't care about the battery draining every night. But after learning how expensive a replacement battery was, I ordered a Cellink B 2nd gen (good sale right now at blackboxmycar.com).

Yeah I have the BMW advanced car eye for mine. Works great. My car has been hit 3 times without people leaving a note. So I got this as a hope to be able to catch the next person that does it.

Just put up a Cellink B in the classifieds section if anyone is looking for one.
