M3/M4 Li Ion Battery Charger

Hello!

I've got a question about this "BMW" branded ("Ctek") charger.

It is Part # 61432408594.

As can clearly be seen in this image, It has indicated on it, "...For 12v Lead Acid And LIFEPO Batteries".

Yet, "ShopBMWUSA" sites all indicate this model as, "Not for Lithium Ion Batteries"

My Confusion is further enhanced as it shows up on the ETK for F8x M3/M4 and also on "RealOEM" for
the same application.

It's not listed at "Tischer" and at "ECS" it's listed as "New", so maybe that's it?!?

Any thoughts?

Help!

Cheers!

P.S.: Tischer confirmed/Ordered/Delivered and Properly In Use!

Looks identical to the CTEK lithium xs charger which is definitely for lithium batteries. So it seems BMW got a rebranded charger. If in doubt, buy the CTEK branded charger.

Yeah!

But, Why all of the conflicting Info.?

Call me strange, but I'd rather have the "BMW" branded one.

S.O.S.

S.O.S.

Ctek makes about 20 different chargers. Most OEMs slap their logo on, and tack on another $50 or $100 to the price. There are no internal changes made.

I'm not sure which charger this is since it looks to work on both the lithium and non-lithium batteries...though I guess there is conflicting info so who really knows.

Personally, I've used the regular Ctek chargers for years, and just picked up the Lithium US because I know it will work.

Edit - Lithium US is the right model number for the US.

Isn't it the CTEK Lithium US that we want in the states? XS seems to be 220 volts. BTW, can the CTEK lithium charger be used for non-lithium car batteries?

Thanks!

Whoops...yes, it is the Lithium US...not XS. US is the one Amazon sells.

Though I don't think either can be used for non Lithium batteries.

Seems like the new BMW CTEK charger is in fact a dual-mode device that can be used for both lead and lithium batteries. Interestingly, it is hard to find this information written on the web, but the picture is clear:

I have this... it does come with manual. The manual identifies the different cycle steps (as numbered on the top)

Hey,

I've had this for a while now and it works great!

It does come with a manual and does have a "Li Ion" - recondition mode.
Now, I'm not sure if this mode would work the same on a regular "Lead -
Acid" battery, as I have not tried it.

The "recondition mode" is the first step and it stays there for however long
is necessary, depending on the individual batteries' current state.

Cheers!

I believe there were two different versions. One for AGM only and one for both. You just have to make sure you get the right version.

It can charge both. It just has a microprocessor for lithium vs processor for AGM. I use mine on Lithium, AGM, and SLA.

It just monitors and keeps the battery types from being overcharged by varying the ah load.

But it can still charge AGM just fine. It's the same exact amperage and load rating as their AGM model with the same 8 steps.

If you don't mind going without all of the charging stage indicators, you can get a "genuine" BMW charger for much cheaper. I have one but have no idea how well it works because I haven't tried the acid test - specifically deep discharging the battery and seeing if it can wake up and reconnect the battery to the electrical system. Given that it is a BMW branded product I assume it will...

Lithium and Lithium Ion are NOT the same as LiFePo (lithium iron phosphate). The chemistries are substantially different from each other. It's a shame to see two significant brand names (BMW & CTEK) treat the topic so flippantly. If you follow the link above you'll see that BMW still hasn't gotten its shit together
