Post F80 M3 / F82 M4 Real World Tested Performance Numbers Database (with Competitors)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
We made an extremely popular and useful thread just like this to compare various E9X M3 results to competitors (link). Here is the next iteration!

For the most up to date post/data scroll from threads end backward!

Please feel free to add data AND provide link to document. Let's stick to major publications only. Multiple sources for each category are obviously encouraged. Keep her neat and please regard all formatting . Just copy and paste all of the data less any comments to add new data in another post. All cars should be the current generation. From my perspective some more data would be desirable for:
  • Jaguar XKR-S, F-Type R
  • Stingray (Automatic Trans)
  • BMW M5

Keep in mind that US standards almost always measure with a 1 foot roll out. Meaning the clock doesn't start until the car has moved 1 foot. EU and others do not use this. This typically offsets time to speed to speed and time to distance numbers about 0.2-0.4 seconds thus making them somewhat incomparable.

I think there will be numbers from other sources showing existing cars faring better relative to the M3/4. The automatic trans Stingray is one for sure that performs better. I hunted hard for Porsche 1 km times but could only find official results for the prior gen cars.

M5 was not left out on purpose. This took a ton of time... but will only be really good with some help.

PLEASE add any data you can find or have already come across.

Motor trend for the z51 c7 got 3.9 0-60
0-100: 8.8
1/4 mile: 12.2 @ 117.3mph
Braking 60-0: 104 ft

This is for the manual btw. Not sure why anyone wouldn't get the z51 package since it's so cheap..

As you alluded to earlier, environmental variables come into play here preventing a true 1 to 1 match of times. Comparing cross-magazine tests amplifies this. I noticed you're taking the best M4 times across all magazines as your M4 0 to 60 baseline along with other performance metrics summarized above. Are you doing the same for the other cars you're comparing the M4 against?

Don't quite understand your question. Are you talking about comparing this data vs. simulations and in other threads? There are no conclusions here, only a warning and lots of data.

Link please.

Feel free to edit the table yourself. Regarding the formatting is not too difficult. Cheers.

Nice compilation Swamp. It makes a fairly convincing argument for you to finally order one.

I'd just edit the table but my tablet and I don't get along when formatting is involved...

None of the press cars is manuals? BMW seems to be marketing the DCT. I'm still waiting on performance # manual vs DCT. With difference in ratios and drive train loss it'll be interesting.

Pressure, pressure,

Very likely a new family car (er, umm, SUV/minivan) and predominantly for my wife before I dive into a new ride. This is more background for the under rating and dyno debate than anything...

C7 stringray no doubt a great car just don't think it's a great direct comparison to the M4 since it had no back seats. I didn't qualify to purchase a stringray though since I have all my hair and don't wear black socks with my sandles

Mostly agree. However, given its popularity, similar performance and significantly lower price, I feel it does belong. So do some of the other high power low dollar cars like the Boss 302 and Camaro ZL1.

Come on now, not ALL Vette drivers wear gold chains...

Not sure what's going on with these tests but the Stingray is a faster car.
