BMW M4 GTS Coming After M2

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
BMW insider Scott26 responded to a post in the M2 forums yesterday and laid out a timeline for future M models. Looks like there will indeed be a GTS variant of the M4. It also looks like the M2 could get some better launch colors compared to the M3/M4.

Quote:
They have new specific M colours developed but in no way have they confirmed what models they will be applied to. As for Specific M colours that have been created there is a sort of burnt Orange metallic a sort of Kyalami Orange remix , a new Red colour kind of like a much brighter Sedona Red and yes a new Blue.

Despite being the launch colour for the 135i Coupe the order rate was not successful hence why it was replaced at the LCi.
What cars they will come with is anybody's guess at this time.

After the new BMW X5M and X6M that will be launched later this year. The M2 will be the next all-new M car. There will be a hiatus until the next M5 but in between there will be the M4 GTS which could use the Orange colour as a nod to Fire Orange.

If he's referring to Sedona Red (that was replaced at LCi), interesting as it looks slightly like Sakhir orange

The e92 GTS was a final special edition to the M3 and if BMW are planning to do the same with the F8x then we won't be seeing this for a few years. BUT what would be amazing if BMW decided to release an M3 that's extra driver and track focused like a GT3 and have those models regularly released as Porsche does. Hopefully us Yanks will get a chance to own these next editions.

Uh...the ///M stands for Motorsport. So, the M3/M4 is already BMW's answer to the GT3.

I suppose you could say a M4 CSL = GT3RS

The reality of course, is that the M cars are a very successful compromise by design. Too much luxury, tech (aka weight) to be considered true track contenders.

I do wish the M division would promote the M2 as a stripped, light weight & trackable street car...sub 3000lbs

The M3/4 is no where near a competitor to the GT3. It's a very capable competitor/alternative to a base Carrera or maybe an S at best. A variant between an M3/4 and GTS would be very popular.

He didn't say it's a competitor. He said it's their answer, as in their equivalent on the line. Performance wise, not even close, but I don't believe that was the argument he was trying to make.

well, honestly that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me either

I sort of understand what he is saying, but the basic 3 series platform is obviously so horrible compared to the base 991 platform lol

Umm, I wouldn't say BMW has an answer to the GT3. I'm fairly confident BMW wasn't designing the M3/4 to be any sort of answer/competition/etc to the GT3. That's moderately crazy.

And BMW can release the GTS version, we just won't get it again.

I agree with you. Just trying to play a little devil's advocate. The 991 is a pretty special car.

Exactly. Anyone who thinks M is for motorsport so my car is a GT3 equivalent is laughable. But wouldnt you spend an extra $15K if you were offered a "GT3" model?? -200 lbs, aero, rear seat delete, shorter gear ratio.. I would in a heart beat and I think many many more would as well. I can only masturbate to this.

The GTS was announced in late 2009, two years after the launch of the car on which it was based. That is 3-4 years before production ended. It was not a final special edition, really the only special edition in my view apart from the CRT (the rest being cosmetic nonsense.)

I actually think SSII is great, too. Just not something I would buy.

That is funny, SS is the only one I actually like. Blue is too skyblue, the yellow is too throw up yellow. White is played out. Black is black, boring. Gray doesn't seem to fit the car and the orange is the only other one that I like.
