F82 Creaks and pops from center trim/vents/AC/radio area

600 miles in and I'm getting constant creaks and pops from that area. Not on smooth roads, but some tarmac surfaces are rough by design even without potholes and it drives me nuts.

If I press on various parts of that area firmly it goes away.

Anyone had the same and fixed it?

Thanks

Yep... here too. My E92 M3 did the same thing. BMW uses cheap clips that creak and squeak.

I suspect you can pull the trim pieces and put felt or something in there to stop it. I'm going to wait until it drives someone else nuts enough to pull it all off, fix it, and post a DIY for me to follow

Damn... Carefully taking out the center trim should be a very easy job without doing any damage. There are many DYIs on that. I might try and put some tape.

I'm 99% sure it is that top center trim now just below the vents, and not the control/radio buttons below.

I had that on a number of Subaru's....drove me crazy. I used to punch the dashboard. Never had it in a BMW.

Weather got colder and more humid and now the trim decor is temporarily dead quiet. I'm thinking some WD40 on contact points might cure it for a couple of years.

I have the exact same issue on my F80. Do you happen to remember where in the F30 forum this was? A quick search revealed lots of potential threads but nothing constructive.

I am guessing that the center trim just pops off...going to plan on removing it and adding some strategically placed 3M trim tape before reassembling.

I used Gummi Pflege. The trim pops off and you can access all of the clips inside. After going thru ea one about 75% of the noise is gone but still not 100%. I also had the same issue with the door panel drivers side. That has gone away 100% after treating. Most of this trim creaks which is annoyong coming from 3 E9X M3's which were pretty quiet.

Yea I'm getting a lot of little rattles and the car is just 3 days old. On my E92 it was a good year until I started hearing any creaks or rattles, so I guess they're just making them cheaper and cheaper. What I don't get is, why can't BMW spend an extra $5-10 on each car and put that thick felt tape behind all of the pieces and around all pressure points so that you don't get the rattles? Seems like an inexpensive thing to do.

Yes, this is also driving me crazy. It seems to go away for me if I push down/back on the NAV screen.

This and the HK speaker rattle. Some frequencies make the entire rear soundstage vibrate and sound like total crap. I've unlatched the child restraint cover clips, which helped a little, but there are a tons of other vibrations. Worst sounding/insulated sound system I've had in many cars. I'm going to be complaining at my 1200 mile service.

I've found (on other cars) that a thin piece of felt or similar helps. These are friction fittings and creaks tend to represent movement, so to prevent movement you need to make it a slightly tighter fit. A bit of felt, etc. can help accomplish this.

Gummi Pflege is good stuff. Expensive for it's size, but a little goes a lonngggg way.

Total Derail...

But why did you get rid of the C7 Vette? I'm toying with the idea of grabbing a vette or M3 next year when they release the 2016s. Once I saw the Vette is going to have a decent transmission with an A8 (hopefully it's as good as they're claiming) It made me consider it as I'd really prefer a DCT. I think I'd still prefer the M3 due to the utility, the DCT, and with all that utility still performs with the Vette and is a much better all around vehicle (e.g., if you actually want a back seat).

But... With supplier pricing basically being $6k right off the top. I could get a basically fully loaded C7 for $10k less than a moderately loaded M3.

#firstworldproblems

To be noted, my loaded F30 with <19k miles on it is a great car and honestly I dont 'need' anything else for awhile, but internet forums make me want to spend money when I visit them too much...

I don't have the famous dashboard creak like I did in my E90 and E92 but I do have the window creak on all four windows. I think silicon gel solves the problem.

This might help:
3M™ Conformable Sound Management Tape 9343 helps provide anti-squeak protection between plastic components throughout the dashboard and other automotive interior applications.
Tape is abrasion- and wear-resistant; anti-stick, low coefficient of friction properties; and meets interior automotive component specification.

Yeah, I figured this issue would crop up. I mentioned it on another thread and the owners pretty much ripped me apart for saying it will start creaking. F3X's do it too (person experience from an F30 328i, creeped up within 600miles on the odometer...). Motortrend even commented on it on a test drive of a 335i.
