Arrrgghhh! War wound after 2 weeks
Unbelievable...I have the car for just a little bit over two weeks and got hit by a rock kicked up by a track as it passed me on the highway. First time I've ever got dinged this bad. So now I'm looking at a roughly $2000 windshield replacement. This hit has created a little crater and looks like its penetrated to the layer of glass below - plus it's obviously started to spider

Mine cost me a little over 1k. It sucked and my deductible was 1k....
Better than 2k, I guess? Good luck man....it's a bummer. just make sure they do it correctly so you can just move on. I had to repaint my rear bumper already too. It happens. Last edited by Wes Howell; 09-03-2014 at 09:05 PM.. |

Sadly no. Having had no previous incidents despite decades of driving I didn't think it would pay off. Perhaps I should get it after I get the windshield replaced.

Given it's location, perhaps it can be filled as a temporary repair? This way your not replacing an otherwise perfect windshield. Maybe do a full replacement after a winter or two when it has a bit of pitting.

You don't have insurance? Insurance will cover the windshield to be replaced by BMW you just have to force them. At least in the USA.
Sorry about the "chip". At least it's not body damage that would require new paint, etc.....windshields are easy.

$2K for a windshield, wow! Sorry to hear you got nicked so soon, I mean cars will take their hits over time but this so soon. As said, "it happens, just fix it and move on" and enjoy the M4. Also, I will suggest a drop in deductible to like $500, you might be surprised at the policy difference, as always YMMV.

Resolution
Well it's turned out not to be a complete disaster
I have a quote - total parts cast of approximately $1500, $450 for labour, and then finally 13% HST on the total which pushes me over $2000. Fortunately, after some calls to the dealer and my insurance company, I've got full coverage Worst thing out this episode will be the aggravation and being without my M4 for two days (sadly my loaner will not be an M car ). |

same thing happened to me when i bought my brand new x5 a few years ago. had all of 300m on the odo and got a massive rock into the windscreen that was kicked up from an articulated truck on the motorway. state farm covered it ,,, less my $500 deductible. ugh.

Your near the US right in Ontario? I would call Safelite( Port Huron,MI Detroit,MI Buffalo,NY all have them) auto glass and get it done in the US. My f10 550i windshield was $550 bucks installed with taxes/disposal 6 months ago. I just went to safelite.com, typed in 2013 335i with all the options and it was quoted at $733 not including taxes, installed. It was $445 for just a standard windshield. That is the cash price, Michigan sales tax is 6%. So 778 plus what another 50 bucks in disposal. I would think you could get it fixed in the US for under 850 bucks. Plus side is they will do it in a parking lot, so you could go eat lunch or watch a movie and it would be done in 30-45mins. |

I had mine cracked from side to side. I only had the m3 for two weeks. Dealer will not have a windshield for 10 days. This happens with every one of my new cars. At least I have a 100 dollar deductible.
