2015 YMB M4 Winter ED / Build / Photo Journal
After being a BMW fanboy for most of my life and seeing countless wonderful European Delivery stories shared by the members, I have finally decided to take on my first European delivery adventure with my supportive wife.
The new M4 will be my third BMW and second M car. First hard thing to do was to let go my beloved 2008 E92 M3 that I had ownership for almost 6 years. The beast had always been running strong and never had any issues during my ownership. As much as I would like to keep both old and new, but financially it was just not feasible. Luckily, after few months of searching, the car finally went to an enthusiast from this forum. Few last shot of my old beast. I was able to secure a November allocation from my dealership back in September 2014. But due to my schedule, I was not able to take ED between Nov~Dec, so I have decided to do a late winter/early spring ED and praying the weather will cooperate. Initially, my CA was not sure BMWNA will accept an ED order with almost 6 month in advance, but surprisingly our ED date (Feb 28th, 2015) was confirmed by BMWNA on Sept 26th, 2014. Here is my 2015 YMB M4 Build Production started on Jan 29th, 2015 Body shop on Feb 3rd, 2015 Paint shop, production end on Feb 4th, 2015 My Itinerary: Day 1 (2/25/15): Arrive in Munich Day 2 (2/26/15): City tour in Munich Day 3 (2/27/15): BMW factory tour Day 4 (2/28/15): Car delivery -> BMW museum -> Nurburgring Day 5 (3/01/15): Nurburgring -> Heidelberg Castle -> Romantic Road (Rothenburg-> Dinkelsbuhl -> Nordlingen) -> Munich Day 6 (3/02/15): LogInOut -> Neuschwanstein Castle -> Salzburg Day 7 (3/03/15): Salzburg city tour Day 8 (3/04/15): Salzburg -> Lucerne Day 9 (3/05/15): Lucerne -> Zurich -> Frankfurt Day 10 (3/06/15): Frankfurt -> Stuttgart Day 11 (3/07/15): Stuttgart -> Munich Day 12 (3/08/15): Leave for US [ADDED on 4/19/15] Finally took redelivery over the weekend after about 6 weeks since dropping off in Munich plus 1 week being held up in dealer for xpel/tint installation. First mods: Full Xpel front + rocker panels and partial CF roof. Suntek CXP 70% front and 55% rear (Went for subtle look) IND front reflector (Color matches really well) Crappy pics from iPhone. r Home sweet home and some proper shoots!

Day 1 ~ Day 3
City of Munich BMW Welt and Factory tour. I originally plan to do both factory tour and museum on the same day. But unfortunately the museum was closed due to some MINI Award held in the museum. I had to change my plan to visit the museum after the car delivery on the following day. I was able to take some pics of the new M4 with OLED light. IMO, i think they look cool from distance but when close they look a bit fake and too futuristic to my taste (especially the tail). I was able to check in early to use the premium lounge and seeing others getting their car delivered. Perhaps the black F83 M4 belong to someone from the forum

Day 4: Delivery Day
I believe one of the guest book belong to the bimmerpost, but not sure which one. Both were signed regardless. Since the winter in Munich is unpredictable, i opted for winter tires with Welt delivery. It is a bit on expensive side, but to have a peace of mind i think it was well worth it. For those are wondering, the spec for those set are 18's with 255 square set up. If i am not mistaken, i believe they were run flat tires. Honestly after few hundreds miles of driving. Trust me winter run flats are not something you would want to drive on a daily basis. They were extremely loud and stiff. After having the car valeted, head over to BMW museum to learn about BMW. On the way to the museum, also pick up a complementary engraved key chain from BMW gift shop. BMW Museum. Either we are too familiar with BMW brand or the museum are too well documented by the bimmerpost. I felt the museum was smaller than i expected, thus i was not overwhelm especially compare to Mercedes museum that we later visited. If you are quick, I think the entire exhibit can be easily finish less than an hour. I think most cars have already been posted by members, i will just post some for the sake of my journal. After the museum, take last few shots in front of the welt and prep the car to take long journey to Nurburgring. For those notice something on front bumper, you are probably right. As someone as paranoid as me worry about picking on rock chips off the road, I have always clear bra all my cars. Since that is not an option during ED, i have decided to put some temporary clear Trakk Tape to protect front end of the car. They were fairly easy to install and not very noticeable from distance. Sadly the weather has not been working out in our favor, the temperature has been cold since we arrived Munich (Mid 30s) and forecast rain for most part of the week. Looking forward for the next 350 miles of driving on autobahn. Along the way, we hit quite a few patches of slow traffic. Majority due to work construction. We arrived Nurburg at nightfall. As naive as we were trying to look for open restaurant in an off season race town in middle of Germany's country side may not be the smartest move. Because NOTHING was opened. But we did stumble into this. We ended up checked in to our hotel (Dorint Hotel) directly and gladly the hotel restaurant was still opened. The hotel does have a decent size underground garage. The hotel is also right next to Nurburgring vistor center and entire hotel is decorated with racing theme. I thought it was quite neat. If i remember correctly, i think this sketched is based on the 2010 24 Hours Nurburgring overall champion E92 M3 GT2.

Day 5
Our hotel balcony was facing Grand Prix race track. Heidelberg Castle Start of Romantic Road (Rothenburg-> Dinkelsbuhl -> Nordlingen) On the way back to Munich, was able to let the car rip for few short moment. Even though on the day of delivery i was told not to go over 120 mph during break in period. Oh well, not everyday you get to drive on a highway without speed limit.

Day 6
We first stopped by at the winter tire depot and swapped back my black 19's, forgot to take some pics though. Final wash at airport AGIP before heading out to LogInOut. It was a raining day, so just a quick wash to rinse off any road dirt and salt.. The location of LogInOut was not very trivial, we almost miss it. I thought i would share some shots of the LogInOut entrance for those plan to take ED in the near future. For those may notice the clear sky, those pics were taken on a different day, the day of leaving Munich. Follow the Hilton sign through out the airport. Once you pass the airport's Audi forum take a immediate right on Terminalstr. Mitte. At this point, the hilton hotel should be facing you. The small LogInOut sign can be seen on your right. The LogInOut office is inside of the terminal behind the LogInOut sign. Last few glimpse of the car before seeing it again in US Due to the bad weather in some part of the region we were visiting, we decided to actually drop off the car few days earlier before the end of our ED trip. We decided to use other mean of transportation, i think without me constantly paranoid about parking situation make my wife happy for the rest of the trip.. Honestly, i feel BMW upsizing on their cars start making their new cars maneuver like a pig in Europe's tiny city road. I can see why 1 series is so popular in Germany. We dropped off the car on 2nd, made to Bremerhaven on 5th and loaded onto a west coast bound vessel on 7th. I thought we were quite lucky about the timing. I know some wait weeks before catching a boat.

Day 7~11
Last few locations we visited after we dropped off the car. Snowy Neuschwanstein Castle, looks like we made the right choice of dropping off the car early. Salzburg, Austria Lucerne, Switzerland Frankfurt Mercedes Museum, i thought the museum was more interesting compared to BMW museum. The museum does not only talk about Mercedes, but instead the history of automotive as a whole. Perhaps it also has to do with Mercedes's long history in car and the tour was more informative because audio guide was offered. So if you ever stop by Stuttgart, regardless whether you are into Mercedes or not, i think it is worth a visit. If you listen to every exhibits, you will need a least few hours to finish the entire tour. Last edited by psuwcc112; 03-14-2015 at 02:02 AM.. |

Nice! I have 3 gigs of photos from my ED, but no time to do a proper journal of the trip.

Sounds like we are on the same boat, Tirranna. You must have dropped off early on the 2nd as the spaces were full when we were there at noon. It has been nice moving smoothly so far. March 2nd drop with an arrival at port in CA set for the 31st. My son was reading all the destination stickers so I will have to see if he remembers yours.
